Hellgate VS Aion

Hellgate: London http://www.hellgatelondon.com/

Aion: Tower of Eternity http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/

This summer will witness earth-shaking changes taking place to the game industry in South Korea because Flagship Studios`Hellgate and NCsoft`s Aion will go into a face-to-face conflict.

On June 20, Korean NCsoft announced on its new game announcement held in Jeju Island that the closed beta of Aion will start on July 31 and coincidently, Hellgate??£¤s closed beta will be conducted in July.

It`s for sure that this face-to-face conflict will most likely lead to only one of games standing tall in the end though they are both highly anticipated titles. Now, I`ll compare Hellgate and Aion from the angel of game system and graphics. Hope this will help you make the right choice.

1. Game system

First, let`s take a look at Hellgate. From the information already released, we can see that Hellgate focuses on monster fighting, character leveling and item collection. One character can fight against dozens and even hundreds of monsters, so strategy is necessary during game play.

Concerning character development, there are three factions in Hellgate, each with two classes. And characters of the same class will turn out to be strikingly different depending on the abilities they focus on and the distribution of attributes, which is quite similar to Diablo.

The items in Hellgate are mostly borrowed and evolved from Diablo series. In Diablo series, different gems are used to enhance items, and in Hellgate, players can upgrade items to their liking.

Aion features RvR system and communication system. In Aion, in order to survive and gain stronger power, the Angelic race, the Demonic race and the Draconic race world wage ceaseless war against each other. In order to solve the imbalance of population between different factions commonly found in RvR games, Aion specially created the Draconic race which is a NPC race and as well as a neutral race between the Angelic race and the Demonic race. The Draconic race does not want the Angelic race and the Demonic race to cease war, so it will offers a hand to help the weak faction fight against the strong faction so that neither of them will win.

In addition, Aion has a system which can push players to communicate more with each other. In Aion, players can form teams of up to 6 members. When partying, players can fight kill monsters more easily. Strategic partying also plays an important role during a faction war. In order to achieve their goal, the players in the same faction will naturally have to communicate with each other frequently.

2. Graphics Undoubtedly, though in different styles, both the titles have very high quality graphics. Hellgate tries to present a gloomy world, but Aion tries to present a splendid and dreamlike world.

It is hard to predict which game will be left standing at the end because players experience different kinds of enjoyment during these two games. Hellgate give enjoyment to players via its action element and character development system and Aion via its siege war and RvR system. However, it is predictable that the conflict between these two games will bring some indirect effect to the game industry and competition will lead to better service.

I think these are two very different games and not that comparable and I choose to play them both.

Diablo has it's following and they will flock to Hellgate and NCSoft is a MMOGF massive multiplayer online game factory... that's what they do.

Are there enough players to support so many MMOs in on market? Before WOW, I'd said no ... but perhaps now there is. But it's hard to break the cycle... I still by CS  :)
