Bethesda Plays MMO Card Close to Chest

Bethesda Softworks, creators of the famed Elder Scrolls series of RPG games, has been playing its card close to its chest and not revealing anything about a future Elder Scrolls MMO.

Speculation has recently emerged over Bethesdas first MMO title taking place under the Elder Scrolls banner and the reason beind this is the registration of elderscrollsonline.com to ZeniMax Media, Bethesdas parent company.

Pete Hines, an executive VP from Bethesda quickly pointed out that ZeniMax Online had recently been set up to deal with MMO titles but wasn't about to reveal anything of interest to CVG.

We have a separate company, ZeniMax Online Studios, that's owned by our parent company, which has been set up to do MMOs but they aren't talking about what projects they're working on or what they're doing.

When asked about the possibility of an Elder Scrolls MMO, Hine didn't say no but he didn't say yes either, chosing to shroud the entire possibility in complex wordings.

It's [ZeniMax Online Studios] obviously a new shop, a new startup, and given that it's an MMO, I imagine it'll be quite a while before they start to talk about what they're doing.

Man, a Elder Scrolls MMO would be so awesome! The single player aspect of TES was the only thing I never liked about the series, so an MMO for this would be great.

    NO!
I love the elder scrolls series!
They are the best games ever made, and should NOT be MMO!
    That wouldn't be TES anymore...

The ONLY great thing about it would be that they had to include all of Tamriel, but there should instead be many more singleplayer RPG's first (One with Argonia, one with High rock, one with skyrim etc.)
All provinces of Tamriel should be released as singleplayer games before making an MMO with all Tamriel!

And, we already got enough MMO's with Lotro, WoW, (AoC, soon), Guild wars (lol), and all those others!

You rpoint about having enough MMOs is mute. Compare the amount of single player RPGs to the amount of MMORPGs and you will see that there are far, far, far more single player RPGs than there are MMORPGs :-P

I love the work Bethesda has done in general. I hope they bring some of the original Elder Scrolls people over to the new startup so that they get those elements over to any sort of MMO. If anyone has the fantasy game IP to challenge World of Warcraft it's Bethesda. On that note, anyone else looking forward to the Fallout as much as me?

TES RPG system is one of the best I have come across, learning skills by usage instead of spending "points". As for an MMO, well, what makes them Better than SPRPG's is that other people play them. What makes them S^&t in comparison to SRPG's is that opther people play them....

I'd love to see an TES MMO, but I don't want to see TES SPRPG's fall by the wayside because of that.

It will also lead to heaps of Lore Headaches having two developement houses working on a Single IP two different RPG formats.
