Blizzard hints at New Game?

A new splash page appeared this morning on Blizzard official site, and last time Blizzard did something similar they announced Starcraft 2 at their World Wide Invitational 2007 in Korea.

We will know for sure the meaning of that splash page at the Blizzard World Wide Invitational in Paris this weekend (June 28-29), and we will of course live report the announcement from the WWI.

As far as I can see, the scripts do nothing more than registering 'hits' with an online statistics server, in other words; a fancy 'hit counter' ;-)

They probably use it for some sort of tracking to find out how many people are visiting their site, and assign the task to a third-party provider to relieve their own servers from the stress =)

Probably just a teaser yes, but nonetheless a damn nice (mystic) piece of artwork (as always^^) from Blizzard.

My desktop background for now (replacing a pic of my beautiful Aprilia RS'125 bike =P)^^

I would just like to remind everyone that previous to the StarCraft 2 announcement in Korea, Blizzard cycled through splash image a day for 1 week, counting down all of their titles up to StarCraft 2.

In other words, I would not simply sit there and say, "Yes... WOTLK IT MUST BE!" based on the first of potentially many splash pages.

Also there is a red tint to the ice in places.Have any of you ever heard of the phrase "hell freezes over"? Blizzard used it during 1.11 patch of Diablo 2. If you look, the markings are quite clearly satanic in origin. As well as that, there is a slight red tint to the artwork in places. It also looks like something may be about to burst or explode out of the ice, possibly melt it... like fire... fire = hell... hell = Diablo 3 ;D

its a wind up nothing to do with D3 or wow just art to wind us up

that could have something to do with Wrath of the Lich King perhaps?

It totally looks to be a face on the left side.
This could be anything. It could be more SC2 stuff. Altho, likely it is Bliz announcing WotLK beta soon.

    blizzard main site not worldofwarcraft.com

I highly doubt its SC2 stuff like Soullore said that looks nothing like SC2 it doesnt even look like doom. The image title makes it clear its ice. Lich King has a lot of ice in it and yes I think I stared at the image to long because I have to agree it looks like a face on the right hand side. I seriously think its the lich king no matter how much I look at it I really think its lich.

If Virvandi (sp) was true on there acidental release date hint for Lich King then I except WoTLK to be out in time for Christmas rush. All the game shops have November 3rd for the pre-order date.

I am very curious. IGN even has it set for Q4 (winter) 08

that might all well be true for diablo but why would they post a diablo splash on a world of warcraft Europe page?

Correction on IGN this is what they say about the release date.

    Published by: Blizzard Entertainment
    Developed by: Blizzard Entertainment
    Genre: Persistent Online RPG
    Number of Players: unlimited
    Release Date:
    US: November 2008

and it was the left hand side I saw the face was pretty creapy.

I'd say you hit it on the nose. They probably do that to be able to track unique visitors and such in addition to the standard view count.

I'm tempted to say you are looking too much into it, but this IS Blizzard we're talking about :P

I also get the impression that you have a certain game you're hoping will be announced...

Regardless, nice references! I never would have thought to correlate this with D3 in any way.

  • Mon, Jun 23 2008 10:13 AM ()

it's about wrath of the lich king.

The splash page links to this CSS file:
    http://us.media.blizzard.com/232309/master.css

which includes a commented out class called 'tundra' which references this file:
