Bringer of Light

Farming, and how *I* do it.

So I recently switched my professions to Mining/Herbalism from Mining/Alchemy. Boy was I surprised at the difference it made.

I used to hate farming. Being a former hardcore raiding Prot Warrior before BC it always seemed like the end of the world when I had to farm for raid mats, or repair costs. It would take me hours to get anything done!

After rerolling for BC, I decided I wouldn't be as hardcore as I was before. I felt like I needed a break and didn't want to farm up all that crap all the time.

So after reaching 70 on my Paladin I was more casual when it came to raiding. No mat farming, nothing. But something happened... I saw people zooming around on these epic flying mounts. I HAD to have one.

I decided to drop Alchemy for Herbalism and go with straight gathering professions. I headed out and started skilling up my herbalism right away. After about 4 hours work over two days I got Herbalism up to 375.

I was ready. My epic flying mount was calling.

First thing I did was download Cartographer with the Herbalism and Mining addons. I also noticed these database packs for herbing/mining on the same page. So I got those too thinking "hey what's it going to hurt?"

So I get it all installed, load up the game and ..... wow.

I had no idea what those databases were at the time. Now I can't live with out it!

Anyway, the only thing I farm are herbs and ore. And the only place I farm those is in Terokkar Forrest. I know what you're thinking.. "Why Terokkar? Why not Netherstorm/Shadowmoon?"

Well, Shadowmoon and Netherstorm are always full of people farming herbs and ore. It can get fairly frustrating in those two zones, especially with out an epic flying mount! So I stay away, for now...

Anyway, I started doing laps around Terokkar (following the border around the entire place) using only my Find Herbs ability, and visually checking the ore nodes that I saw on my minimap (thanks to Cartographer and the database) by flying by them.

I'll just say this, I've made almost 5k gold in 5 days.

Terocone on my server goes for just under 20g a stack. You get about 2 stacks after doing two laps around Terokkar. And that usually takes an hour and a half (on a non-epic).

So that's 40g in my pocket right there. But that's hardly it.....

You also get around 30-40 Adamantite Ore, 30-40 Fel Iron Ore, 8'ish Eternium Ore, 3-8 Khorium Ore (depending on luck), 30-40 Dreaming Glory, 20'ish Felweed, 2-4 Primal Earth, 1-2 Primal Fire, 2-4 Primal Life, and random blues from mining if you're lucky.

In a hour and a half, that's 200-400g depending on your luck. At least on my server.

In the past 2 days I've farmed up enough mats to make TWO Gyro-Balanced Khorium Destroyer (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32756) and a Bracers of the Green Fortress (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23538).

I gave one gun to the MT of our guild, which he really got a kick out of. Especially after seeing it shoot green! lol

The other one sold for 1500g, and the Bracers sold for 700g. I usually turn all of my Adamantite Bars in to Hardened Adamantite cause it sells for more. I also make all the Felsteel Bars I can. They all sell for huge profit.

Now keep in mind, if you have a lot of competition for this stuff you're likely not to do as well as me. I usually play at odd hours due to work, so it's pretty much empty when I'm out there.

But I'm just in amazement at how much money I can make doing that and thought I'd share it with all of you.

Hope at least someone gets something out of this post.  :P

Yeah I always found Terokkar to be a great source of herbs/ore as well. I pretty much exclusively picked herbs there to satiate my need for potions before the Alchemy changes.

By the way, you can do direct links to those items in the Curse db if you'd like. :)
