Curse

Curse.com Pre-opening

We will be launching Curse.com tomorrow afternoon, and we'd like to request that everyone hop on over to the website and click your hearts out. We know there are still some display issues, as well as backend bugs, and we will be working non-stop today/tomorrow to get them all fixed.

You will find a lot of new features, as well as many refined features on the website, and we encourage you to test these out as well.

  • Curse is now Google powered!
  • The projects hosting now includes a field for "install guide" -- this will be filled in with a default install guide (created by us) but any author can override the setting for his project.
  • You will now find a new projects administration area; http://my.curse.com/account/projects (still a WIP)
  • Our video section is finally available! Upload and watch videos right from your PC. No need to download, no need to wait.
  • You can now blog about your adventurse in Azeroth, or wherever they may lie.
  • Our World of Warcraft database enters public beta testing. Contribute data as well as information about your characters.
  • My.Curse profiles are now available. We will be expanding on the features available for your profile over the coming weeks, but we are quite proud to announce the availability of EVE Online, World of Warcraft, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes character support.

We want to thank everyone who has been helping us debug and improve the website over the past month, and we encourage you to keep the suggestions and bug reports coming!

Great looking site! Only problem I have is Google's only good at it's own search engine, when it comes to searching websites it finds the most useless and irrelevant crap to what you're trying to find.

Thanks fiilt, any particular keyword you were looking for? i tried myself a bunch of addons and google allways gave me the best results. We will offer an advanced search very soon.

Okay well here's an example of what I mean. Say you're looking for some addons to Atlas, and you search "Atlas". You do get the Atlas addon at the top of list and some other atlas-related mods (so google effectively does work) but look at a couple down the list a bit.

You get things like http://downloads.curse.com/details/7236/quick-download/ which have already been brought up in the search (the Atlas of Azeroth main page is second on the list).

So really it's a minor complaint, just that Google sometimes brings up unwanted results. :P

Will there be a way to disable the "table of contents" box that appears on my addon pages? It's kind of a waste of space and greatly reduces the available screen width for the addon's description, and greatly increases the amount of scrolling required to read the description.

fiilt, thanks a lot for your feedbacks. We actually have full control now on the Google search(we bought one Google server) We can customize nearly everything. We will work on it after release:)

I'll remove these links from the index. I had already pulled the download pages, just missed the quick-downloads :)

Phanx the table of content is generated automatically from the wiki markup in your description.

I believe you can include something like __NOTOC__. You will want to check the mediawiki markup guidelines.

Has this FuF guy asked for premission to upload everyone else's videos, or is he just doing it because he wants to make a name for himself? He like takes the top10 movies from warcraftmovies.com and puts in his profile... I mean... Tell him or something.

FuF is a curse moderator so i wouldn't think he is trying to take credit for anything. He is actually just doing his job? :)
