Curse

Future Plans for the Curse Client

A few months ago myself and Adamar took over the actual development of the Curse Client. In that time we've taken it a long way, bugs have been squashed, ui's have been polished, and the experience has been streamlined.

However, we are by no means satisfied.

We've listened to the feedback brought to us by our users, we've examined them, and we've studied our options. In the next major release we're going to be doing a lot of things.

Some of these things include:

  • New features, such as UI Synchronization between computers.
  • Cleaner, more intuitive, interfaces.
  • Bugs will be squashed and problem code will be eliminated
  • No more popup progress bars!
  • Enhanced support for firewalls and proxies.

For our Mac users we'll also be bringing:

  • PPC Support
  • 10.4 Support
  • A true, native feeling custom UI.

We are dedicated to the client as one of our most important products and will be investing as much time, energy, and caffeine as is needed to address the needs of our users.

I'll be keeping you guys updated as we progress including screenshots, screencasts, and further announcements.

@Kaelten  I'm fairly sure this was a feature that the original Ace Add-on client did as well, which the curse client inherited.  So while I could be wrong about all this, but it sounds like to me you guys removed a long standing feature, expect players to pay for it and call it a 'premium service'.

Pay for a client for a update all button?  Way to take steps backwards in the community.  Uninstalled Curse Client, would rather manually update my addons than support such a greedy shady company.

@Aelyndar, actually we do via the Author Rewards Program

@mihai_alex, tell it to in the game manager.

@paulc206, improved mac experience is a big priority for us, and I'll be working on it personally.

@Sentack, fully automatic updates is a premium feature.

I'm not happy to see that you're taking away features from the basic client and putting them on the 'premium' package.  Given that most of your 'content' comes from people developing Add-ons for FREE, this seems pretty dirty.

If you want to make people interested in subscribing.  Add NEW features.  Features we might consider worth the extra dollar.  Stop taking features away.

And speaking of which, what happened to my auto-update feature to begin with?  It seemed to me that I didn't use to have to hit "Update all" in years past.  but at some point, the client stopped updating for me.

Is this a joke? Paying for an addon updater? No, thanks! I don't think you guys give some of your profits to the addon makers (the guys who actually deserve it). This is just a load of crap.

I'm enjoying the client on the PC, and ugpraded to a paid account. The mac beta seems very unstable though.  My future subscription satisfaction will be tied to that, since I'm moving to a mac laptop.  I know its a pain to support two platforms, but I hope you can pull it off.

can we get in for beta testing new client

i'm definatly not paying for some update all button, without ads - faster download - more support - ok! but not to get all my addons updated at once, thx for giving me a reason to uninstall CU....  props and respect to the developers but this is just one big rip off ! i payed before to support curse's effort itself and not to update my addons at once. payment cancelled good bye curse

please figure a way to get all addons in one place that may mean dropping egos and partnering up with wow interface.  The most highly unlikely scenarios!

    sry had to say it

I just subscribed for a year.  Awesome product - as others have said, I have become dependent upon it.  I was very disappointed when the Ace updater died, but you guys have really stepped up and I appreciate that.

I am happy that at least some of the proceeds will go to the developers. That's a big part of why I am happy to pay, and not merely willing to pay.

I'd like to echo the request for a more robust search capability - I hope that's at least under discussion.

And yeah, I'd love to have an addon profile saved on the server side, so that I can avoid having to manually keep synched across my computers.

Again - great job, and thanks for making my WoW experience a whole lot smoother.

AH! Yes plz, Mac PPC compiliant :)

Need a better search function and advance option to search for addons. Right now you only search the addon's name but sometime the name doesn't mean anything.

The description of the addon does.

How about when searching for add-ons, highlight the ones we already have installed?

  • Wed, Apr 29 2009 6:56 AM ()

Yay, PPC support for Macintosh. You've heard my prayers.

Backup of addons would be nice , or at least game settings.
