    @Himehroyd

You can easily assume that - since most of the comments in this thread is negative, most of the comments on WoW Insider article (www.wowinsider.com/.../wowmatrix-responds-to-curse-and-wow-interface) is negative - user response is extremely bad...

    Dear Curse.

Shove this horrible program and greedy "service" up where the sun don't shine.

    How I miss wowace...

  • Wed, May 6 2009 9:43 AM ()

Oh yeah, one quick question: Do any of the addon developers get any kind f monetary reimbursement for providing the addons that you are in essence now selling?

If the answer is no, I think I would be one pissed developer as you are trying to make large profits off of their work.

If the answer is yes, you are in violation of some of Blizzard's new regulations.

Either way, this was a bad move.

So.. the giant advertisements just weren't paying the bills huh?  Well.. at least WoWmatrix is still free.  So long and tanks for all the fish.. er.. addons.

Pay?! You call THIS a payment? Come on people, I come from a country that is considered to be poor by most europeans (Ukraine) but even I do not consider paying $2.45 a month worth any discussion. What important is the fact that you enjoy/do not enjoy how any system actually works. And if you find it satisfying I don't suppose you'd refuse to help this system survive by doing a tiny donation per month...How can it even be compared to a game account payment?

Why would anyone give us any kind of services for free in the first place? And they've been doing it for quite a long time now. And if they have come to a point where they cannot sustain themselves anymore I'll gladly buy that account since it is something that would solve the problem.

    @pakostevens

If you don't cancel it it will renew after a year but it says clearly on the premium site how to cancel the subscription.

  • Tue, May 5 2009 11:50 PM ()

how do the subscriptions work? If I do the year for $29 is there any kind of obligation to do any kind of extension or can I just use the year and that it? I couldnt find any fine print to go along with it.

"If any other company had this much bad response to a program - they would immediately change it - or else the company would see that program go down the toliet."

Depends on the perspective of how much of a bad response this is.  You don't know how many premium accounts exist, or how many users of the free version of the client there are, so you can't quantify 'bad response'.

im not here to troll im just going to say what i think and get it over with,

honestly this was a bad move for curse, I had no idea of this premium membership until i clicked my update all button and was told i could no longer use this. After finding out more i think i might look elsewhere for a client. I would rather pay to play runescape than pay to have features that i already have which is, in my opinion greedy and unimaginative. If you make a payed service you have to think of new ideas not just take away the ones you already used. sorry but this just seems like a bad idea, it was good whilst it lasted i guess.

"everyones wow account that wasnt already a battle.net account was converted to one under the email address of wsm220@live.cn what more proof do you want?"

    Screenshot or it didn't happen.

blizzard may not directly shut down blizz but have you thought that maybe blizz will block every addon that curse carries in response to this? if no one can use addons hosted by curse then what is the point of curse hosting anything? o and btw as far as my guild getting hacked...everyones wow account that wasnt already a battle.net account was converted to one under the email address of wsm220@live.cn what more proof do you want?

"due to the fact that my entire wow guild got hacked the day they all installed the curse client to update thier addons after you shut down wowmatrix for only following Blizzard UI Add-On Development Policy, I am reporting curse to blizzard and recommending that they shutdown curse.com unless removes the premium service feature and gives everyone the same access to addons regardless. If you need a reminder of what the UI Add-On Development Policy states then here is the link below. if you dont want to trust it then google UI Add-On Development Policy"

I have run the Curse Client and its installer through multiple virus scanners (including AVG, Kaspersky, Sophos and Norton) as well as scanning it with adware scanners (including Spybot, Superantispyware and adaware) and have NEVER found a malicious program lurking around. I've even had a friend (who happens to work as a proof-of-theory developer in the games industry, developing malicious programs and software as proof-of-theory concepts) take a look at the installer and client. He has stated that there is no reason what-so-ever to suspect that the Curse Client or its installer can do anything that would lead to your account getting stolen or your computer being comprimised.

To be perfectly honest, I think you are telling tall tales right there. Unless you can provide evidence (which you didn't) of your entire guild being hacked (and I don't think you know how difficult that would be) I'm just going to pardon your argument as a lie.

Furthermore, Blizzard are not a regulating body. They cannot shut down Curse.com under any circumstances. They could send a cease and disist letter but - based on the fact that they haven't done this already - they are unlikely to do this.

"It also wouldn't surprise me if we see Blizz update their policies in response to this, making it hard for mod distribution channels like Curse to make any money at all. :/"

Any deluded idea that users have about Blizzard stepping in and putting a stop to this are just that - delusions. Blizzard will not lift a finger. They will not try to police something that has very few restraints placed on it. They will be aware of Curse Premium and if they were going to do anything about it - which they never were - they would have done it already.

Blizzard will not justify your greed. They will not justify your entitlement issues outside of WoW. We aren't talking about raiding here. Just because Blizzard have decided that every Tom, Dick and Harry are entitled to see Yogg Saron does not mean those same people have the right to be greedy.

I shall say this once: Blizzard will not lift a finger. They don't care. Curse are not doing anything wrong.

One issue i have is that the client reinstalled that "curse profiler addon" even though i checked it off once. Now keep it off - its my choice. Installing stuff i don't ask for is bad policy.

I mean its not like i got a notice of some sort saying that you guys decided to reinstall curse profiler addon

Other than that i think Curse Client really has matured from the days when WAU 'disappeared' good job :)

I'm sorry, what are you people complaining about? All they took away from the client is the 'update all' feature. Are you that lazy? No one said you HAVE to have the premium membership in order to use the curse client and have access to addon downloads. They didn't wipe out your account unless you pay for premium.

If it isn't about the update all button and your problem is with the supposedly slower download speed (and it's not that slow, find something else to do with your time while the program downloads your files for you), go individually download/update your addons off of curse or any other wow addon site (wowinterface, wowace, etc). Many addon authors post several mirrors.

Not all addons are at curse, either. I go through a lot of time manually checking for error-fixes and updates after major patch days, and curse/the curse client honestly wasn't a big help. I'll still use it for the convenience of minor updates after all the big problems have been solved, don't get me wrong, but clients will never beat customized manual updating.

but seriously, 'quitting' curse just because you can't update all in one click without paying them, and writing them a strongly-worded comment about how you're leaving them 'cause they added an optional, paid premium account? lol.

    So sad,

I am not going to toss disparaging remarks at Curse, they have provided me a great service to date (thanks guys!).  But frankly I don't feel the subscription is worth the price they are asking as all I would be wanting is an 'update all' feature, so I will likely go elsewhere for my mods.

WowInterface will probably be motivated to get their updater out the door sooner then later by this and I will probably donate to WowInterface once it has.  Again it isn't that I mind paying or donating, I just feel the subscription here at Curse is too high as all I want is the one button (heck plaster adds all over the client and ratchet my speed down, thats fine).

It also wouldn't surprise me if we see Blizz update their policies in response to this, making it hard for mod distribution channels like Curse to make any money at all. :/

Indelible hit the nail, those words should be more than enough to tell us what's going on with our beloved community...

I have to say that I fully support Curse's Premium Service, despite not being able to afford for a Premium Membership, and will continue to use their client with the free features since it's the -only- addon client I trust.

Please, Curse Staff, ignore the WoWMatrix people, they are clearly the epitome of immaturity and are merely being selfish and don't care if clients like WoWMatrix suck up bandwith from everywhere and don't even ask for a modder's permission to upload their work. I'm glad to see WoWMatrix has been shot down.

    Regards,

    Gilgamesh.

While I don't mind Premium Services, it seems to me that you don't offer THAT much more :/
