Website Status Update

Hi everyone,

Today has been a very hectic day as usual thanks to 3.0.2's release, but we've weathered the storm thus far.  You may have noticed some slowness with the website and your downloads, so we wanted to update you and give you some data we're currently seeing.

We've recently doubled our bandwidth, as that was the primary issue at hand -- we capped our bandwidth allotment for per-second usage.  We're currently seeing a 5-6x increase in bandwidth usage due to the patch, and this is just the beginning.  To that end, we're looking to further increase our bandwidth if possible.  On normal days we usually see bandwidth usage of around 200MBits per second, but today we're at over 1300Mbits per second, and it's still increasing.

We're working hard to ensure that our network architecture can handle the increased traffic that tomorrow will bring with EU players being updated with 3.0.2, and we'll continue to keep you updated on the website's situation as the week goes on.

In the meantime we'd like to remind everyone that you can find all of your latest 3.0.2/Wrath of the Lich King compatible Addons by visiting our new 3.0.2-compatible Addons page.  You'll also see a "Wrath" icon on each Addon page if it's compatible with the latest patch and Wrath of the Lich King.

I haven't seen something ebing queued before in Curse - how can we see where we are in the queue, or how long it'll be before we're likely to get anything installed? Nothing seems to be happening on my system, have been waiting 20 mins so far.

There was a temporary outage of the service which powers the Curse Client, due to hardware. It's been restored, and should be functionally well. Our file server bandwidth has been upgraded to three entire one-gigabit links, and it's capped at the moment. Downloads appear to be going through without a hitch now.

Adamar just told me there is a possible hardware issue with the authentication service machine. I'm sure he'll post here with updates.

@deepshit: Its because the servers are clogged with everyone who got the 3.0.2 patch trying to update their add-ons. Patience is all that is needed and hopefully it will get fixed soon

I'm getting the error "An unknown error occurred contacting the server". Does it have to do with curse or with me?? Googling atm, didn't find anything useful so far.. *Did reinstall the client, didn't really help; did "Run as Administrator", didn't help (using vista)* Am new to curse client, thought it would come in handy managing my addons, guess not, lol. Will see what will happen :)

It seems I was too hasty in my post... We have 3Gbps to the media servers, and using every bit of it. (Pun Intended)

Its a free service they provide to gamers, so there isn't much to complain about at this point. Thanks for the update and the effort to improve the experience.

This is very frustrating. I've been trying to download Questhelper and Cartographer for more than an hour. I tried through the client, which I successfully installed and updated after many attempts going through many different links. But the two addons I'm trying to load fail every time. Until today, I used Cosmos. But per the cosmos.com home page, most of the features of cosmos (like coordinates) are not available with the new patch.

Our ISP has rerouted some cabling, which now gives us about 2.5x the bandwidth we've had so far. Happy Downloading!

We're waiting for our ISP to essentially triple our bandwidth to the file servers. It should happen within the hour.

Come on guys, can't you read? The man said that their servers are overloading because of so many people using up their bandwidth to download the new mods. Just give them a chance!

There are currently some issues at our ISP preventing the complete use of the additional bandwidth they have allotted us, and we are working to resolve this.
