Final Fantasy XI

Boss in FFXi Takes Over 18 Hours to Defeat?

In Final Fantasy XI there's one boss that "stands above all" which is the Pandemonium Warden. A guild by the name of BeyondTheLimitation formed a raid and attempted to defeat said foe and spent over 18 hours on "it". Apparently the boss change forms and after twenty times of changing the guild simply gave up. Raiding for 18 hours without a break isn't exactly very healthy. It gets even better though, according to FFXI's very own warning's message, it states:

Exploring Vana'diel is a thrilling experience. During your time here, you will be able to talk, join, and adventure with many other individuals in an experience that is unique to online games. That being said, we have no desire to see your real life suffer as a consequence. Don't forget your family, your friends, your school, or your work.

This is amusing, since it does not mention your health in it.

Any SINGLE boss that takes more than an hour to kill is to much of an investment for any one person, let alone a group of people. I can understand if maybe you had to fight the boss repeatedly. But you should atleast get breaks between each form.

I remember raiding one boss for 20 hours in FFXI, shortly after NA release. 18 hours on one boss is insane yes, but we did it.

I was raiding with a Japanese guild at the time.

lmao, couldn't believe this when I read this. what the hell was SE thinking when they scripted that boss? I mean a fight that takes over 18 hours?? Seriously, nobody, I mean NOBODY should have enough time on their hands to be able to do that. Not taking bathroom breaks is pretty unhealthy. not eating. not doing anything human. though I think it's funny that after all that time the raid gave up.how they managed to form a group to take it on is a 1 in a million, bravo.

Apoco, name the NM and your job/level. Also, name the NM and say if you beat it or not.

To my knowledge, AV wasn't even close to being popped "shortly after NA release" even by a high end JP HNMLS. And there isn't, and has never been, another NM in FFXI that could take a dedicated shell anywhere close to that kind of time to beat until they added Pandemonium Warden this year.

And for someone claiming they was on this never before heard of 20 hour marathon, you would know its not called a raid or a guild in FFXI.

Lastly, if you was playing shortly after NA release then how on earth was you even high enough level for a high end HNMLS to allow you to attend on such an event?

You'd need level 75 and COP virtually complete (both of which take months). Plus absolutely top notch gear which takes even longer to attain.

Sorry dude, I'm calling shenanigans on your marathon claim.

haha.... may that be a bug?

Thats insane I remember my first kirin took 1 hour and my first JOL took about the same once we started Krak/eater DRKin it we drop them all in less than a minute XD. Cept AV of course hes still a *** and PW seems even more insane -_-. Oh well Kil'Jaedens on my plate now ^^

The truly messed up part is, people are just realizing Pandemonium takes this long, and SE just admitted AV is designed to be this long too. At least they were able to survive against PW for so goddam long, AV has stood for 4 years without being defeating except with exploits.

    That is just terrible design.

if it was maxed... only 18 (3 groups of 6)

I used to play FFXI back when it came out. I played it for 3 and a half years. I got ahold of some pretty nice gear on my PLD through all the raids I did with my guild. I ultimately ended up leaving the game because of the amount of time it took to do just about anything. I remember spending many sleepless nights in Sky farming the damn water to spawn a god.

I switched over to WoW and have loved it ever since. I joke with my guild and give them a hard time whenever we go on raids and people start complaining that it's taking too long. I tell them, "You have no idea what long is until you have spent a night in sky farming items to spawn a god and having to deal with other linkshells doing the same. Imagine a mob that spawns every 3-4 hours and there is a sea of people all trying to get claim on it. Now imagine another guild getting the claim on it and you getting to wait around another 3-4 hours for it to respawn not knowing whether you'll get it the next time either." Think thats bad? Now go look at some of the NM's...many of them spawn at random times after a 24 hour cooldown has been met on their spawntimer. Fun times...lol

Lol. PW fight got on NBC news the other day, so SE had to agree to nerf AV/PW/JLo to appease the legion of angry parents threatening to end thier child's account. Now that's a good laugh.

I never played FF and after hearing this, I don't plan on it. It's like getting trapped in a bad marriage, if you know how it's going to pan out before-hand, don't tie the knot!
