I read all these threads on here as far as running Vista with Curse and I came up with a simple solution. Dont pay attention to all the stupid stuff about how you gotta log in as an admin or extract what. All blah blah blah talk to me.
Simple uninstall your wow. Yah I know, its a bitch waiting for it to reinstall forever, BUT when you get to the WotLK expansion, naturally its going to suggest to create the public folder seperate from the Wow folder. DONT CREATE IT.
Blizzard will warn you again that it HIGHLY recommends to create it. still.............dont. What apparently happens is Curse is going to get deflected because it now cant find the default path of C:/programfiles/worldofwarcraft, etc etc., because all the files have now gone to C:/user/public...//.
Now what Ive been reading a lot on is people complaining saying their computers will freeze up if running Vista, or they get them blue screen of deaths. Well solution is this......
Take it at your own risk, but go into msconfig in search. Change to selective startup and uncheck load startup items. Apply, ok, reboot. After it reboots, SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING that would connect to the internet. Kaspersky, Norton, Mcafee, Spybot, Spysweeper, etc etc etc. Shut down, Windows Defender. (YES your computer will be at risks of attacks, but its just temporary)
While everything on your computer is shut down as far as virus scans, computer protections and firewalls, NOW go try and run Wow, install your patches up to date, then go grab Curse, and install the addons you wish back into what its supposed to go into.
.....and walla. Problem fixed. After you get Curse and all its updates back into the correct path folder and have Wow up to date on patches, THEN go and turn all your security software back on. The most that will happen is you will get annoyed messages saying Blizzard is trying to collect data from you and its blocked, which is good, because I hate Blizzard bouncing around in my computer trying to collect info.
I did this and have no problems with Vista running Curse or patching up. Plus if you dont create the public folder, Wow not only will run a lot faster and nicer, but you block more attempts of them little Blizzard jerks from investigating your computer, IP, etc. Least if your running Kaspersky 2009 Internet Security it does. :o)
