Hellgate: London

Shakey start claims Asian characters

After Hellgate London suffered a shakey start on release at Hallowe'en, patch0 was released. Some bugs were fixed and things seem to have gone well enough on that end. That was until the Asian players were told that they would be getting their characters scrapped.

After several weeks of server instability and game bugs that were effectively stopping players in Asia from playing, a patch known as Patch0 was released. Here's the bad thing. After attempting to apply the patch to the servers with no success, it was soon realised that the only way to do so would be to perform a complete character wipe.

In effect, Asian players will now have to level a brand new character because their current characters will be promptly deleted in order to apply patch0.

Thank you for your patience while we worked to upload Patch0 onto our local servers. For the past two weeks, IAHGames and our partners have worked overnight almost everyday as they attempted to implement Patch0 onto our existing servers. In the end, it has been determined that there is no way to implement Patch0 onto our Hellgate: London servers without also discarding relevant player data. Because of this, when Patch0 is installed on Tuesday, there will be a complete character wipe.

IAHGames, the distributor of Hellgate in Asia, has not left the playerbase without compensation and has given all players an extra 30 days of subscription free.

Hellgate London has not had the smoothest launch of recent years and seems to be getting worse. Hopefully Patch 1, due out this December, will come with not only brand new content for subscribers but also a hefty amount of bug fixes for both single and multiplayer.

Update: It appears that the implementation of Patch0 has been delayed until tomorrow when another news release regarding the distribution of the patch shall be made available.

Jesus.. Just a couple of weeks but still.. this will probably make some hardcore people cry.. For them this is like losing 80-100 hours of playtime.

I feel bad for anyone who went at it hardcore for the first few weeks of launch there. If there's anything good that can come out of this, hopefully it's that we're not seeing the fact that the servers were so unstable that folks weren't really able to get very high level.

If people had level 30-50 characters deleted due to this, it'd suck pretty badly.

    eNTi,

Glad you always the postive one, your comments are so constructive. I suppose your the person that laughs when someone hits their toe.. Anyway if you are comparing Hellgate London with WoW as you previously have done, you forget how many issues Wow had when it was released. Every product goes through this issue stage at launch for MMO, it will never change over time, unless companies use the same development/configuartion tool to launch such products and I doubt that will happen.

Btw WoW ever last year had a major issue were patches when released were causing major issues and had to apply fixes on top of fixes.

My point is you can not provide a 99% bug free product , since beta testing always going to be limited compared to real life users. Actaully the best you can do is aboit 80-85%.

I do feel sorry for my Asian colleagues, but know the Flagship will be putting forth their best effort to fix the issues.

I am really enjoying the game and its a nice sideline to WoW at moment, since I do not have time to play Wow, since I am a raider.

is curious it was only the asian servers and not all them. but then iahgames may have been the issue more then flagship who knows.

Omg,i think this suck badly, big time. Any hardcore player reading this surely will give em their deepest empathy (omg,i hope i spelled this right, rarely use my schoolenglish, hehe. If not,im sorry.) And than its the issue with the 30 days off free gameplay as compensation for scrapping their chars, its just like a bad joke. They should at least get a couple of months free playtime, they have bought a product, thats not just has failed to be the great gameplay they paid for,but also has destroyed everything they have been building up charactervise and every level reached. In short, this sucks bad. I feel for them, and hope they get more then 30 days free gameplay, because thats an insult. Please forgive my poor english,i hope you get my point and what im trying to say anyway, and thanks for taking youre time to read my opinion, may we never experience anythink remotely like that, hehe.
