It was rushed because EA posted less than great 3rd quarter earnings.

It's not ready for primetime and I'm worried that a patch will not come often sinc they have such horrible support for battlefield games.

I love htis game as a huge diablo 2 fan so we have alot of fun playing it but belive me theirs sooo many glitches. brokken quests, crashes, the ability to see the world map in a portal or fire or dx10 smoke since it's not coded well, in charring cross statuion eveyone is randomly trelleported to the center of the station eveery 3 min or so even when using a vendor or bank etc.. it's alot of serverside issues as well.

Plus they removed the ability to see other people as high quality as you see yourself even with settings maxed so you look pimp in a world of blurr textured players online. You cannot see improvements or mods to peoples gear like you can see it on your own, I could go on for hours. PLEASE Get patches out soon, dont let this go the wway of so many other EA titles!

Bill Roper Speaks

Hello All,

I have had the game for 4 days now and I can honestly say the DirectX 10 version of HGL is too choppy to play. I am uninstalling it from my Vista Machine. I am going to play the game on DirectX9 on my Pentium 4 machine.

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 7900 GS

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 8600 GT

I refuse to continue playing the game in Microsoft Vista. The graphics engine for DirectX 10 lags very bad when there are more than three players in your party and one of them is an Evoker.

We tried the same group on DirectX 9 and we had no problems at all.

At this point I am looking forward to Direct X 10.1 before I try playing this game again on Microsoft Vista.

Bill Roper Speaks

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully this gets fixed before long because the DX10 version has some cool stuff graphically.

Bill Roper Speaks

Short answer to your DX10 issues, your machine doesnt have nearly enough horsepower for DX10 title under vista (the graphics card is the weak link) get yourself a proper dx10 card and your problems will largely be solved. (more memory wouldnt hurt either)

Bill Roper Speaks

Most of those arent bugs, but gamebreaking issues. My biggest problem is the really dull customization for you character with the "talents".

Hellgate: London is a broken game as far as I am concerned.

Bill Roper Speaks

I am waiting for an 8800GT, its on back order, sigh.

However the game rocks in DirectX 9, I played it last night after the SC game.

Bill Roper Speaks

no respecs sucks...even if they made it costly and on a long cool down timer it would be better the no respecs period. I don't want to reroll another character of the same class just to try out a slightly different spec. That is just beyond retarded and so 1990's.

Bill Roper Speaks

I'm sorry but what?

Have you played the game to it's highest level? Have you spec'd every talen combination and attribute combination possible at the end level currently in the game? Whilst the game does not have the most complex form of talent and attribute system out there, it is vastly more complex than current games that are pulling in millions of players such as World of Warcraft. If you wish to see a dull customisation system then play World of Warcraft.

I fail to see how anyone, mostly reviewers, can comment on a game prior to having experienced the end game content, which is what any good RPG is about - longevity.

Bill Roper Speaks

Some responces before I post my actual comment.

Responce to DX10 comment -
your issue is your system and not the game engine. Your system is not vaguely powerful enough to handle DX10. The 8600 is designed for budget gamers and therefore you should expect budget graphics performance. My advice would have been to spend that extra on an 8800. Now, you may consider investing in 2 gig more RAM and another 8600 if you want to get more performance out of it.

Responce to bug comments -
Most of the bugs are inconsequential. So far, I have run into very few game breaking bugs. One in fact. There is a mission where you are not suppose to portal out when it tells you to survive and it crashes if you attempt to do so. That is it. The rest are little graphical issues and a couple that have already been patched so no complaints from me on the patch front.

All in all, this game is a fine title. The release of the multiplayer aspect which can be compared to games like Guild Wars was as near to perfect as anyone has gotten so far. Server downtime has been limited and access to the game has not been laggy in any way. The graphics aren't amazing but then World of Warcraft has poor graphics when it was released and now has 10,000,000 subscribers. The itemisation system needs a little tweaking and the ragdoll physics on the death of mobs is a little poor but then Flagship have admitted to this in press releases and states of the game posts. The game, I would give 8/10. I'm defiantly going to play it for a long, long time but there is, as is apparent from the reviews out so far, no room for a traditional Diablo-esque game in this day and age as the RPG genre has evolved - possibly in ways I now, don't like.

I have no doubt that if Diablo 2 came out now, it would have been as slated as Hellgate has been, Most of the things Hellgate is being slated for now were the things Diablo 2 was being praised for when it was released. IT just seems that Hellgate is to shiney a retro-esque game and as such, fans and reviewers just don't see the point in taking major influences from the past. I do.

Bill Roper Speaks

I love the game.

got a demon of a machine and can play dx10 maxed out and usually stay above 30fps outside.

only really gamebreaking issue i encounter is since i have it maxed out and dx10 the memory leak left over from beta still crops up(the higher your settings the faster the caching builds up) after a couple hours of playing. but its easily remedied by quitting out of game when it starts to feel slugish for me and while it dumps the cache go grab a drink or what not. but the memory leak is a top priority for them and will likly be killed shortly.

but yeah overall even in the games forums itself most of the complaints seem to resolve with the persons system causing the issues or the simple fact of wanting the game to be something its not(ie some players wanting it to be a hardcore crysis crushing fps)

Bill Roper Speaks

Fine, so I havent gotten to the maxlevel yet. But I did sit down and had a look at the possibilities of speccing from the "K"-tab. Talents/skills or whatever they are called. As far as I am concerned they sucked big time.

"the end game content, which is what any good RPG is about - longevity."

I hope you meant any good MMORPG, if you didnt, you really need to try a couple of RPGs. RPG is all about character development, immersive story and feel. Besides, you have to want to play the game for it to have any kind of longevity.
