Took them quite a while to come up with a decent trial system. The one buddy key that came with the game wasn't enough :)

This will surely boost the number of players..

Last I heard they were doing fairly well on box sales. Now in terms of subscriptions now compared to launch, I'm not sure. I don't believe they've announced subscription numbers recently, but the initial numbers were around one million.
