Thoughts of a Hopeless Gamer

power leveling yay or nay?

I have recently been tempted to pay someone to level a char for me, as it would be my 6th 70 the grind outside of northrend is not appealing at all.

After doing a good amount of research (based on $ instead of time) i have found that: (american prices through paypal)
(below 60) you would be paying 1$ / lvl on average.
(60-70) approx. 23.99$
(70+) 12$/lvl

when you compare this to the earnings of min. wage (8.75 /hr CAN) / (approx 7.1 /hr US) you notice that the time you would be playing is FAR less than the time you would spend at work eg 1hr of work could get you 7 lvls compared to 1hr of play which could get you 7 bars :P

this is just my two cents as wow is increasingly growing pwr lvling will never go away so whats your opinon yay or nay?

Dont, u should never get a power leveler heres some reasons y:1.yes they do use bots and there lazy asses 2. they will not only leave u with no armor and no gold but they will probably delete ur charz for the fun of it 3. these r the people that hack peoples computers for a living and steal ur credit card and money and leave u bankrupt and living on the streets with a cup filled with change 3.u will get reported and locked out of world of warcraft and will track ur name and email and never let u play WoW again 4. y did u get the game if ur not gonna take the time to lvl him and see all the places and say oh yeah im lvl 80 yaaa and then ur friend will ask u how did u get there and were u exicited and crap then what will u tell them will u say oh i got a power leveler or u gonna lie to ur friend 5. these are the people that make a site and say that there selling something and then when u buy it theyll take off the site take ur stuff and take ur money 6.WHAT UR DOING IS ILLEGAL u agreed a tou saying u will not use one of these if they catch u ,u will not only uget locked out of WoW but will go to jail 7.u know what im not going to go on cause i could go on forever just dont.

thats my opinion i reeaaalllyyy think u should not get one but if u want to end up like what i just said then im not stoppin u im just warning u what theyll do to u.

i would lvl up to lvl 80 if it took me 5 years than higer one of those well thats my 2 cents bye.

Personally, I find creating a new character, starting from the beginning, exploring maps that I had previously skipped, feeling the sense of the toon growing, repeat all the fun quests and forget about the boring low-drop-rate ones, learning new skills gradually and properly organize them in my bars, seeing how easy levelling has become since I created my oldest toons, meet new players and help others to do things I already know... well... I find all these things exciting. Perhaps more than spending all my playing time casting a few spells repeatedely in Raids just to get this or that purple item.

... But this is just my modest opinion.

Paying someone to lvl my toon? No way, it would be like wearing someone else's pants..

Just don't.  It's against the ToU that you signed to play the game, plain and simple.

The options of having someone level your character to a higher level could be definitely appealing in many cases.  I'm now a 'power player' (or a frequent player for that matter, time being the major factor) so to speak, I have a (one, singular, don't shoot me) toon that I've played for a year now and I'm just now starting the Northrend stuff. However, I do have a friend who's daughter plays his account because she doesn't find the 'grind' boring, and he has several 70+ and a few 80's.  I can duel him and kick his tail every tim!, (well, not with his 80 of course... lol)

I digress though... my point is this, I don't care what class your character is... if YOU don't play them up to the high levels, you will NEVER be nearly as good with them as someone who HAS played all the levels and knows the ins and outs of each and every advancement from those levels.  I'm not tooting my own horn here guys, I'm just saying that experiencing the game fully is the ONLY way to insure you're getting your money's worth of that subscription every month!

If you're starting a new toon to lvl, odds are you're going for a different class or build anyway, so that about guarantees that this toon is different from any others that you put time and effort into playing.

As someone said earlier, if the grind is boring now that you have several high level characters under your belt, then maybe it's time to consider a change to another game.

Just my two cents from an infrequent player who happened on this thread because of the link of the curse home page!  :)

    Game on!

I wanted two more seventies. So I already had two accounts and had my brother get another account, we did RAF. So I take my mage and three-box two alts, three accounts total. I took them through instance runs aoe grinding with the mage, finishing in BRD. It was real fast, just a few weeks of a few hours a night. I was afk'd for a long time. But at the beginning I didn' afk and got to two alts to level 37 in 12.5 hours /played. After that I had 60 level grants, so I was able to bring a third character to level 60 just by insta-cast level grants. Cheaper than power leveling three characters.

Don't. As other people have pointed out, powerlevelers are lazy as crap and use a bot and fight the same mobs over and over until they move on to higher level ones. aka: other players see the bots and report them constantly. reports = carefully watched toon and even messages from blizzard that never get answered all the while mobs are dying. Then, even if the powerleveling service doesn't take all of your crap, your account is gone because Blizzard locked it. And guess what? You'd deserve it.

If you don't want to go through leveling, don't. If you have that many toons chances are they're all pretty crappy. Try paying attention to the characters you have for once. People who trade/ebay/powerlevel toons are so painfully obvious when you play with them because of how little they know about the toon. They quickly make my ignore list though.

I'd have to say nay. I've tryed them 3 times 2 different sites for mine and my brother's account and mine went fine bu my bro got caught twice and they locked his account. I was able to get it back. I'd only use gold farmers and do a in-trade game. Blizzard can't track that and so far it's been safe. Only my two cents, hope it helps.

I really enjoy wow - and part of that is knowing that all my gears and levels are something I've done on my own, on my spare time.

Quite frankly I wouldn't mind the the powerlevellers, goldsellers and bots so much if they kept for themselves. But they don't. They spam my chat, they spam my mail and the bots sometimes even hampers my questeing. And that really makes me want them to go away - permanently. But as long as people even consider using such services - they will be there.

So basically are powerlevelleling, botting and buying gold unsafe, hampers the game for other players and are pretty close to cheating. Pretty lame, if you ask me - and should be more than enough reason to stay away.

I had a friend that, just for kicks, set up an entire website for 1 week for (fake) WoW PLing and offered about 10% lower than everybody he could find. Well this resulted in A LOT of traffic. All he did was go into a few peoples accounts and changed their password. Leaving the user with a lovely conversation with blizzard to try and get their accounts back.

Keep in mind this site looked completely legit and even had "testimonials".

Never ever give a power leveling service money. EVER.

These are the people who hack accounts and steal peoples gear for the gold. These are the people who spam in cities, used to mass whisper us and bot in Un'goro.

These people create viruses and trojans that jam up everyones computer and keylog you.

If you give them anything you are supporting theft and fraud.

If you dont what to lvl your own toons maybe you need some other game to play

  • Tue, Dec 30 2008 9:11 PM ()

Blizz gernally knows when someone is being power leveled because power levelers are lazy. They use a bot and always go to the same places. They will sell every item they get and beasue they wont do quests its very obvious that they are being botted.

So really blizz will probably wait till you almost level 60 becuase they want to see if they can get another month out of you if you arent and then will close the account.

If I don't want to level another toon, then I simply don't. I have a mage that I leveled to 80 (from 70) in a week after Wrath came out. I got him decently geared, then leveled my Shaman to 80. I have my dps and my healer. I'd never spend real money to have a toon leveled. Once I'm ready to level a tank, I'll do so. Outside of that, I don't see a need for a 4th toon. I'd rather learn my class through leveling than to jump into instances with my paid lvl80 blind. Skill is more important than the number of high level toons you have (I'm not saying that you lack skill or anything).

Get enough Emblems of Heroism to buy the 10% xp reward shoulders BoA to send to an alt and fell the lvling a bit faster and use some damn pwrlvling guides instead !

I've once bougth gold and i regret it this day !

Nobody beside Blizzard should make money on WoW !

Screw SK/Nihilium and all the other paid guilds - get a life !

I will tel you from experience. Getting your characters power leveled by some site service will cost you. I have a busy life too and I wanted to finish leveling my warlock to level 70. So I took the bait. I was charged 59.65 for 10 levels. By the time the guy finished leveling my warlock. The next morning I found myself in BIG trouble with Blizzard. Not only did this jackass sell my  gear I was dumb enough that I left that toon with over 5000gold. Kiss that good bye. basically everything is gone. EVERYTHING!!!

well the reason i posted this is because i recently had a friend who did this .. he told me to monitor his toons progression whenever i was online .. which i tried my best to do

he said if his guy was ever in a city to try to time his duration (to make sure he didnt get his bank checked out etc

they didnt .. in the end he ended up spending 60US for 48-70 which he bragged about was a steal , although a "maintenance issue" caused his char leveling to have a delayed start which gave him a heart attack as he was sure his toons were naked and broke

BUT he complained about this late start and ended up getting his toon from 70-71 for free ! he tells me it was a 12.50$ us value

when you think about it 12.50 free for 60 spent is pretty big not to mention these are people who 'couldve' completely jipped him ... the toon is now level 70 and in the howling fjord ... he says that he was also tracking the progress threw msn as they have an account on 24/7 and representitives there to help you.. thats my two cents
