Windows 7 Beta Now Available

Microsoft has clearly learned from their mistakes with Vista.  Yesterday they officially opened up the Windows 7 Beta to 2.5 million people -- allowing any PC user who is interested to sign up, download the beta, and get started testing the next evolution of Windows.  After checking it out for about a day now, there are not only visual improvements immediately noticeable, but performance improvements as well.  It's definitely faster than Windows Vista. (But what isn't?)

However, as with any Beta software, there are chances your PC will crash when running it or some applications may not run properly, so if you want a stable Operating System then stick to your current for now.  But if you do want to check out the improvements for yourself, you'll have until August 1st, 2009 to use the current version of Windows 7.

Windows 7 is Windows Vista SP2.  Sure it forces you to use the Vista style start menu and the new taskbar, its still in essence Vista.  There is some low level programming improvements, but its not a full rewrite and merely attempts to use all this extra time to keep drivers going.  I'm hoping for better driver support and more optimization.  But I won't hold out for too long.

I dont understand why so many people complain about vista.  Iv been using it for almost a year now and havnt had a single problem with it.

I've used it since the day it was made available, and it's been great so far. A lot of the annoyances I encountered with Vista is now gone, and it feels a lot faster. The new taskbar is very nice when you get used to how it works. I will definitely be getting this when it's released.

Windows 7 is just Vista with a new taskbar, memory management, designed to let it run better on netbooks.

I'll be telling people to skip this one too.

Hm... It definitely looks better than Vista. I'll have to finish checking it out before I decide to get it when it's released, though.

    Let's hope it's not... phail...
