Man in China Dies, Played Online for 3 Days Straight

As if online games and video games in general weren't under enough fire from government officials wanting to hit them with the real life nerf bat, this news out of China is going to fuel the flames even further.

Yahoo is reporting that a 30-year old man collapsed and died in front of his cyber-cafe computer during a three-day stint online.

"According to preliminary findings, the length of time this man spent online might have triggered heart problems," the paper quoted a local hospital emergency medic in the city of Zhongshan as saying.

While it's certainly depressing to hear of anyone dying, I can't fathom what blame is brewing in the back of the minds of anti-video game separatists over this incident.

You can read more about it by visiting the Yahoo news story.

Kazard, someone died and you write rofl???

We are sad, if we have a laugh because someone died, whatever the situation.

While it's always a tragedy to hear about this kind of thing, I find it to be excessively overblown whenever it involves gaming. People die all the time from exhaustion (which is more than likely what triggered this man's death), but you never hear about it. Only when the cause of that exhaustion was a video game, does the entire world seem to flip out about it. Sad yes, unexpected no. You can hardly blame the game industry for some guy refusing to sleep (plus, how many millions of us play these games, with no issues?).

I'm sorry but this isn't the fault of the game. This is the fault of the man and the cafe that allowed him to use the faciliies for more than a few hours. You can't just take an inncidient where human intervention could have prevented this and then say, "MMORPGs ARE BAD! LOOK! CHINA MAN DIES WHILST PLAYING ONE! OMGWTF?!" because that is just ignorant.

I might make politics my thing. Spin some crap abotu some other crpa and get some random crap banned so I can use it as a way of boosting my political career and not actually doing anything of importance :-)

He was playing Harvest Moon. *duh* Had to keep his chickens from being stolen.... takes a lot of time and concentration.

But it seems that through China's tough policy on video game restrictions, they have the most video game related deaths in the world. Is it just me or are China's policies failing?
