Spore

Spore Upsets Christians

The hyped Spore was released last week and the reactions have been many and mixed. Overall the game is well received, even if it has some things it could improve upon. One of the main things people have complained about is the DRM-protection SecuROM, but now it there's a new form of complaint surfacing – from Christian gamers.

The site Antispore.com criticize the game because of its concept of evolution, something that they feel are against their own Christian values. The site says that the whole game is propaganda focused against kids to teach them about evolution instead of creation or intelligent design. While the site is negative against Spore, they also take the opportunity to attack Electronic Arts and their employees, claiming they have low Christian morale.

lol these damn christians need to chill off. It's a game with focus on evolution and creativity, what's wrong with that?

Well this just gave me my daily dosage of LoL

And seriously, can't even play a decent game without religion baring it's ugly ass my way?

however--the idea that there is a guiding hand behind the "evolution" of the spore species seems to NOT imply intelligent design..

I'm sure the irony is lost on them, but not on me.

Too bad folks have to be so picky. Think fun.

Funny. Wouldn't the fact that players are designing the creations point more to Intelligent Design versus evolution? :)

This is religion gone horribly wrong.

And I'm a Christian saying this!

Wow. It's a game. It's not teaching evolution. Evolution is a concept and this game is just using that concept. You don't hear antichristians complaining about games that teach creationism.

    They must be bored.

    Yes!!!

  • Thu, Sep 11 2008 6:25 PM ()

Because despite going into it knowing there was going to be evolution, they played it anyways?
Sorry Christians, this is one of the things that alienated me from the Church. Cause it's not good enough to keep Christian kids from learning about evolution, you might as well force your beliefs on everyone else in the process.

Propaganda my giblets...this is just ridiculous. Low Christian morale? I wonder how many EA employees were Christian to start with.

WOW! There are too many groups with their own agenda in the U.S. These people have no problem with Battlestar Galactica...because it's fiction.

I think I'm going to start a group:

Stuff like this does more damage to the message that, somehow, God is involved, than anything the "secular humanists" could ever dream of.

Maybe in the Spore universe, there is evolution. Christians have to find some way to link everything in the world to whether or not it exists in their own little limited monochromatic universe. Pathetic.

  • Thu, Sep 11 2008 6:25 PM ()

Heh, you can take any game and say its 'bad' because it 'teaches' the player to do something that they may not like. (Racing = Speed, Action = Killing, etc)

I dont get these people, no body is forcing their kids to play it.

Don't you know? EA is a front for the Church of Satan! ;-)

    Antispore.com is a hoax.....

If you actually *read* it, it's blatantly obvious :)

“21. The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never gonna give you up.
    22. “Never gonna let you down.”
23.”Never gonna run around and desert you.”
    24. “Never gonna make you cry.”
    25. “Never gonna say goodbye.”
    26. “Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.”

    haha thats just...stupid

personally I love this game :D lots of creativity involved

  • Thu, Sep 11 2008 6:25 PM ()

The same so called Christians who support and believe in creation and intelligent design are the same ones that criticize anyone that is creative and intelligent. They should worry more about the real issues like the war in Iraq and the priests that cant keep their hands off the little boys.

Exactly, where were the Christians when the first Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain hit the shelves?
