Spore

Spore Upsets Christians

The hyped Spore was released last week and the reactions have been many and mixed. Overall the game is well received, even if it has some things it could improve upon. One of the main things people have complained about is the DRM-protection SecuROM, but now it there's a new form of complaint surfacing – from Christian gamers.

The site Antispore.com criticize the game because of its concept of evolution, something that they feel are against their own Christian values. The site says that the whole game is propaganda focused against kids to teach them about evolution instead of creation or intelligent design. While the site is negative against Spore, they also take the opportunity to attack Electronic Arts and their employees, claiming they have low Christian morale.

That seems like the Christian way to handle things... no, seriously. They want to go around spreading His word to people, but the moment something goes against their beliefs they want to start another Crusade.

Well heres to freedom of speech:
If the general picture of a big bang followed by an expanding universe is correct, what happened before that? Was the universe devoid of all matter, and then the matter suddenly somehow created? How did that happen? In many cultures the customary answer is that a god or gods created the universe out of nothing. But if we wish to pursue this question courageously, we must of course ask the next question; where did God come from? If we decide that this is an unanswerable question why not save a step and conclude that the origin of the universe is an unanswerable question, or if we say God always existed, why not save a step and conclude that the universe always existed? There was no need for a creation, it was always here. -Carl Sagan, Cosmos

    Have a great day!

haha... this just made me laugh. Dem christians will find anything to through a hissy fit at. That this game is "propaganda focused against kids to teach them about evolution instead of creation" is freaking hilarious. "Ok class, turn on your computers and log into SPORE, today we are going to learn about evolution."

Hoax or no, you know it's just a matter of time before "Christians" make a big deal about it, just as they make a big deal about any game, film, or book without every trying to watch/read/play it.

The is a wonderful, creative game that my 10 year old son loves to play and I think it's a GREAT game. If the Christian Fundamentalists have a problem with this game then they don't have to buy it. No one is forcing them to do so and why is it that they feel they have to enforce THEIR values on the rest of us who don't happen to share them?

These people offend me as an American who prizes the fundamental values of freedom of choice and action. Why don't they just shut up and leave everyone alone already?

Oh heck yes. Knowing EA and how they make millions of dollars with horrible games, that actually really makes sense.

if you check out the website (antispore.com) the situation is even more pathetic (and hilarious) than this article describes

God rolled? *facepalm* Hahaha this made me laugh way too hard.

It's bad enough to get rickrolled, but getting godrolled is ever better.

If a computer game is making you seriously question the tenants of your faith, that's your problem, not the game maker's.

If you don't know what the Christians are concerned with it is probably because you don't have Christian beliefs. If you believe in creation by the hand of God and feel it's important that children are taught the truth, then you will be concrned with a game that focuses on teaching the theory of evolution. It doesn't matter if it's a game, a tv show, or a song on the radio. If your concerned about what it teaches or says you will probably be compelled to speak up about it.

the whole thought of intelligent design is ludicrous anyway. christians think we the planet had only been around six thousand years when we have many many sources saying otherwise. the game itself will probably be good for kids because it will have them thinking on a wider scale than most video games. why complain about something so meager? the christians will complain about anything they think could disprove-im not saying the game will disprove their religion-threaten, or get in the way of their religion. its a backward religion where they try to hold people to a higher standard than their base instincts, anyone that has really read the bible will be shocked by all the contradictions.

Sigh.....I'm Christian and most games don't bother me in the least. They're games for crying out loud. However I do rank this as just the same as antichristians getting their panties in a wad cuz "Under God" was added to the Pledge of Allegience.

Furthermore the whole seperation of church and state isn't even in the CONSTITUTION. It was a letter sent between Franklin and someone else i don't recall near the end of his life. He was worried about the State meddling in Church affairs, not Church meddling in State affairs. Being a Christian at it's base is a WORLD view. You can't check it at the door, because it a part of who you ARE. However you CAN check political affiliations at the door, because at their base they are OPINIONS.

ROFL its a hoax. xD it has a rick roll at the bottom of the current top post as of sept 11 2008

religion is nothing more then away for a small group of pple using the lord as a way to control a larger group of pple.... and Christian's lose sight in the fact, that as Christian's they are to try and be like Christ.
who tried to teach us to not look down on others and not to HATE someone for thinking differnt.
i'm sure not all Christian gamer's feel this way about the game. i'm sure it's only a small number of pple at Antispore.com who feel this way.
