Star Wars: The Old Republic

SWTOR New Gameplay Footage and Lore Video!

Star Wars: The Old Republic had an excellent showing at E3 and offers players and fans a very unique game experience. While the game is still a ways off we recently stumbled across some new gameplay footage of the game being played in early alpha. It looks incredibly good for a game this early in development - we expect big things from this title! There's a second video about the Treaty of Coruscant and should familiarize you with the lore behind where SWTOR will commence!

Here's a look at the SWTOR Video:

Here's a video about the SWTOR Timeline which includes The Treaty of Coruscant:

The technology makes perfect sense in the star wars universe. Despite the timeline it is set it dosnt make sense to drag the technology backwards to the rate at which you would expect given our advancement through technology, it just isnt very star warzy to play without swish computers or advanced structures.

The treaty makes sense in the fact that the sith forced the republic into submission, what this gives us is the Jedi's struggle to come back to power over the sith, while the sith will continue to dominate half the galaxy. It will give us some awesome story arcs to choose from as far as the plot goes.

As far as hyperspace goes, it will probably be used as a (forgive me) Hearth stone as in WoW, allowing you to jump from planet to planet while not going to crazy as your (/sigh) Hearth stone style Hyperspace is on cooldown, because im sure these things run really hot :D (also, i really know jack all about star wars, watched the movies as a child and am bloody excited about this game).

It looks really good and considering that it is still in early alpha(the vids at least) it will get improved a lot :o

None of those vids a new, but I guess instead of checking the games actual website and linking to that they're waiting till the vids appear on youtube so they can embed them.

The game actually takes place 3500 years before the rise of Darth Vader and if you want to say that technology shouldn't exist at that stage in time you should realise that a: this isn't a game based on reality and b: what happends when a civilization has reached it's technological height? Do they stat at that stage or does it decay. Once we come to the technological stage of being able to build massive amounts of spaceships do you really think that the technology will increase that much more or is that something we'll be having for 1000's of years to come? ;)

The treaty was just a ploy for the sith to come in and attack Corruscant and destroy the jedi temple. How that'll play out in the game remains to be seen, but the sith and republic forces will be fighting each other that's for sure.

@jbmt1: Agreed, I bet ten dollars that there will be tons of Twi'lek Cybersex going around when the game is released... The romantic music didn't help in the trailer, at all.

@Megamanx266: The only thing that doesn't exist yet, that I believe, is the ability for ships to enter Hyperspace at any given time. As for technology, I bet there haven't been improvements in it because of all the conflicts and such and because there isn't really a reason as to why they should be having better stuff? I don't know, just my two cents, I just find it slightly stupid that the Sith Empire would actually make a treaty with the Republic... They should just make it a faction-based game, I don't want to work alongside a Sith Lord.

That video footage is NOT new, that's been floating around for a while now.

Plus... I still have yet to understand why even though this takes place 1000 years in the past... there's still so much freaking technology and most of the buildings/vehicles/ships are just slightly tweaked (and somewhat cooler looking) versions of the stuff from the Movies?

If its truly that far in the past, quite a bit of this shouldn't technically exist.
