Actually Halo 3 is the best grossing product ever within 24 hours of release, making it the fastest selling product. Not just among video games but among all products ever launched in the US afaik, Halo 3 is number 1. Quite scary actually. In the first day they sold almost 2.5 million copies, bringing in 170 million in less than 24 hours is pretty damn solid.

The monthly cost of wow probably makes it a more solid revenue stream, however we all know halo 3 will be driving xbox live and will be responsible for a huge amount of continuous revenue there.

World of Warcraft is still the highest earning PC title/franchise of all time. Halo 3 did out do it on the 24 hour and fastest selling front but hasn't earned more money than it yet and most probably never will. The part about it being the fastest selling of all time was right at one point but I have not kept up with XBox as I think consoles are a waste of space.

I've also been told that Halo 3's multiplayer is direly poor.

5. Call of Duty 4 (for the PS3, so I can shoot you!)

Halo 3 and Team Fortress 2 almost made the list :)

Did WoW really beat down the Sims? WIth subscriptions perhaps, but nort hardcopy sales (considering that you said franchise and there is a bazillion different expansions and such for the sims).

I agree tho, consoles are so far a waste of space, the Wii is interesting, but not enough so to make me want one.

Now it's not free for this one... but at your local Gamestop you can get a copy of a 30-day trial for Final Fantasy XI for $1.99. Not the most awesome of games but hey, it's $1.99 for 30 days.

It's funny you mention that, because I played the game for almost a year shortly after it came out, and I was at Gamestop recently. I saw this and decided to try it again. :)
