It appears that Warhammer 40k, an MMO long known to be in the making, has once again been official confirmed by THQ, making sure that know one forgets about the title

Warhammer 40k, which will be developed by vigil, will be the second MMO based on the popular Warhammer franchise and according to THQ, the title is a long way off but, "so far, so good." With Warhammer Online due out in the next few months, this gives fans of the Warhammer franchise something else to look forward to and lets them know that even if WAR is a flop, they have another shot at the MMO market with Warhammer 40k.

The third title will be with us by April 2009, according to publisher bosses, while THQ's briefing also revealed a new MMO.

Warhammer 40K is the second massively-multiplayer online title based on Warhammer, and this offering will be created by Vigil. The game is a long way off according to Farrell, who said progress was impressive to-date: "So far so good," he chimed.

THQ's to release a Warhammer 40K MMORPG at an unspecified date, the company's confirmed. The game is currently under development at THQ's wholly owned Austin-based outfit, Vigil Games. Advertisement

The title is a further extension of the company's grip over Games Workshop's number-crunching pen and paper RPG franchise, arriving after real success in the RTS field with Relic's Dawn of War series. THQ confirmed this morning that it has now signed a licensing deal for the 40K universe on all platforms lasting until 2013.

The MMO project has been much anticipated, and will sit alongside Richard Garriot's Tabula Rasa as a second, big budget futuristic-shooter style MMO on the not-so-distant horizon
