Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning

Warhammer Online Real PVP Video

Gamespot released a pretty awesome video covering "Real" PVP with the creative director of Warhammer Online, Paul. I am excited about this game after seeing this video. You be the judge, though.

Check it out below!

var FO_260 = { movie:"http://dev.curse-gaming.com/static/flash/flvplayer.swf", width:"500", height:"350", majorversion:"7", build:"0", bgcolor:"#FFFFFF", allowfullscreen:"true", flashvars:"file=http://videos.cursebeta.com/stream2/premium/1164.flv&autostart=true" }; $("#flvplayer_260").click(function(event) { UFO.create(FO_260, "flvplayer_260"); $(this).unbind('click'); });

Just got one thing to say for those who dont like the look of the PvP. Remember PvPing at lvl 19? Without twinking? Thats what this is.

Amen to that! The day I hear that Skaven will be a race in Warhammer is the day I abandon WoW to play a sneaky, cowardly, stinking rat!!! I will not think twice about graphics, loadtimes or itemization - I WANT TO BE A SKAVEN!!! hmm.. sry.. got myself all worked up there. But the point remains! Skaven FTW!

wouldnt mind balanced pvp, i bet soon or later after release they will screw up everything as blizz done

people will start moaning, they will try fix it , and there the trouble starts

No, it wont (hopefully), the only reason WoW is unbalanced is because they are attempting to balance the game around PvE first, and then PvE. Blizzard are absolutely brilliant at balancing games, look at starcraft and warcraft, not diablo (which might be balanced but I have no idea to be hones).

WAR will be completely balanced around PvP, with PvE comming in second.
Hopefully they wont mess it up. Theyre in a better startingposition anyway.

Is this suppose to uproot the king of mmorpgs, WOW? I don't think so. Its gonna have to better. Reminds me of dungeon runners but with a little better graphics.

I thought this game was suppose to dethrone the almighty WoW? Looks like just as much as fight that LOTRO gave...from everything ive read and seen. We'll see though, but right now only a miracle will take WoW out, and i still don't know why everyone has a vendetta against the game, but its most likely just like everything else, going with the flow.

Understand people that this is very early game footage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmOzOQwsk_Q This is some early game footage from wow so you can see the point. (Focus on the combat when watching the video as that is all you see in the WAR video.)

I believe WAR has the capability to beat WoW.

Watched the WoW video and This footage looks the same as the WoW of today. So at the moment I'm not impressed with the way this looks. The concept behind the game sounds great but if this is the kinda of look we can expect we'll thats bad news for these guys. I hope the op is right abd this isn't what game will look like in the end. It's looks more like a game from the 90's heh. But we'll see.

Not sure where people get off saying WAR is trying to take out WoW, but whatever. WAR is simply trying to seperate themselves and cover a niche WoW totally screwed up. You're comparing apples and oranges. They're both fruit but that's all they have in common.

As for people thinking Blizzard is king of balance.. What they did had no talent. They just put the same classes on both sides.. That's not something that takes any form of talent so I'm not sure how they can be king of balance. Mythic on the other hand makes sure there are no identical classes and attempts to have give them each special strengths in certain areas to counteract their counterparts. This is by far more complicated and if they pull off balance, shows a talent and diversity WoW will never compare to.

And to those complaining about the graphics? They're astounding in refrence to the art they were taken from. The designers pretty much hit the nail on the head in terms of character modeling after the Miniatures which is what they were aiming for. You want bleeding edge graphics, go play Vanguard.

What about items one can buy or make? How about professions? Can I interact with my environment in this hobby? Can my character pick up something and throw at the bad guy ? Can I realistically kick the bad guy off the cliff? Is there going to be auction houses or markets to sell what we make or find? Can I team up with the bad guy for awhile then kill him ? What is the ethos in this game world? Can my character become a legend or a notorious villain?

Wow is an extremely polished game, and that's what makes it so appealing and accessible to lots of players.

That being said, I agree with the above poster in that Blizzard is now attempting to balance the classes around PvP, specifically arenas, in a game whose PvE ultimately shines, and as a result, the game experience increasingly becomes scattered and unfocused. WoW's PvP, 4 battleground types with one map each and arena, seriously pales in comparison to PvP oriented games, and yet, more and more the classes' abilities are being taylored to their performance in arena. It's confusing and unsettling to the PvEer, and frustrating, unsatisfying, and most of all repetitive to the PvPer unless you play the flavor of the month classes, currently hunter, rogue, and warrior.

The concept of RvR shown in the video gives me a lot of hope for the game even if the visuals and interface still need some work. I'd love to see PvP that has consequences for the world at large, and therefore, more meaningful PvP. I'm also hoping that the class balance in WAR will be much more fluid and dynamic rather than WoW's rock-paper-scissors failing paradigm. I'm really excited by what I see and hear from this video.

That footage is 3 beta cycles ago from Fall of 07. Every phase the UI look has improved.

    horrible graphics,that is beta right?

WoW's PvP system as a whole is just completely unappetizing. Arenas were one of the least fun things I had ever done in WoW. A warrior could easily destroy pretty much any class, what is fun about that? The real sad part is how some of THE WORST players could just cruise along the 1500's bracket for weeks and still be rewarded with gear. The fact that any scrub in the world can just buy the game, hit level 70 and be showered with gear equivelant to tough PvE accomplishment rewards by doing relatively NOTHING is what ran me off. Casual players who can't put forth the time and effort shouldn't be treated/rewarded the same as people who stuck around to conquer raids, especially when the fights aren't even fun to begin with. I really hope WAR gets it right. I'm sick of people defending WoW, too. "WoW isn't a bad game" is not a good argument, you're a moron if you think WoW's PvP system is good. Hell, PvE content hasn't even been fun since Naxx. It's not really a surprise to me that WoW is so popular, it's about time all the bad players finally all get together and all start playing the same game. Glad popularity ultimately ruins another once-great thing.
