In an article published by NEXT Generation, they tell us about what the CEO (John Riccitello) of Electronic Arts said at the Willian Blair & Company's investor meeting recently. John Riccitiello say that "No, I don't think it's going to rival WoW, but no one would ever predict that. But it is a strong game that will ... get our returns for us. We're proud of it.
This has been the general idea all along, but it's nice to hear it from John himself. I'm sure there's quite a few that might leave World of Warcraft for Warhammer Online. It simply depends on many factors. WAR is a PvP oriented game, while WoW has been a PvE oriented game with PvP at the side. At least this is the impression most people get from WoW thus far, since WAR is still in closed beta with an NDA -- there's not a lot of shared information by players, we simply have to wait and see what will happen as WAR get closer to being released.
If everything goes according to their plans, WAR should be out sometime later this year.
What do you think dear reader, will WAR take a considerable amount of players away from WoW? Or does it simply cater to a different type of playerbase, which mainly play other type of MMOs? Chances are, like I previously said, that WAR will lure over "some" players from WoW, then if they stay is up to the content that exist at release, not to mention the game itself and how EA will handle customer support. All those classic things are vital. How was the support, patches and content with Dark Age of Camelot? Afterall, EA Mythic is behind WAR, so that might give an indication. I never played DAoC so I can't comment.
