Wrath of the Lich King Release Date?

The Wrath of the Lich King Beta is now live. And you can follow our news here at Curse (we'll get images up as soon the thumbnails work again) and also over at our network site World of Raids.

Remember when the beta for The Burning Crusade beta went live? It didn't take that long until it was released. When do you think Wrath of the Lich King will be released?

One guess we can make is that it will be after Blizzcon, so at the earliest sometime in October. However, it's doubtful that it'll be released the same month as said event, my guess would be November or around the Christmas rush in December. Being even more realistic, I'd say January, so they get plenty of testing, tuning and polishing in—it's blizzard we're talking about afterall, folks.

I can't help but to speculate and discuss this topic with people though. Wrath of the Lich King seem to be introducing a lot of content, about the same amount as in The Burning Crusade. Hopefully it will have the same quality and polish as we've come to love about Blizzard's titles. Knowing that they're actively developing Diablo III, Starcraft II and another top-secret MMO alongside of the Lich King expansion is both positive and negative. However, if anyone can pull it off, I'd say it's Blizzard.

The fact that they have told us how they want Arthas to be more involved throughout Northrend than how Illidan was in Burning Crusade only makes it even more appealing than TBC. Furthermore the Achievement System was just announced and it's going to be yet another reason for players to keep their accounts active.

You can easily tell that Winterspring is one of the favorite zones in the game too. Having a icy and snowy continent is awesome, since players have wanted to experience more "cold" enviorments for awhile now. Plus, going back in time to the famous MMO EverQuest – it has an expansion called Scars of Velious, which is an icy and snow continent. Said expansion remains as one of the (if not THE) best expansions to EQ up until this day.. and they now have something around 14 expansions or more.

Now, taking all this into account and attempting to be logical—will they aim for more money (Christmas rush) or simply take their time and ignore peer pressure from Vivendi? I'd say ignore the pressure, since they can release this title whenever they want to and still sell like crazy. To many the new expansion feels more fantasy-like compared to Burning Crusade and Lich King is also more grim and dark, which it should be.

Only problem I have with December/January is that they said 2.4 is the last content patch. Would they really make us wait that long for new stuff? :( What a cruel, cruel world!

Based on the time it took between beta of BC to its release we are probably looking at a late October to mid November release which frankly isnt that far away and is giving enough time to fix stuff up. There probably going to release talents early like they did with BC which will give people something to do in the meantime. All i care about is seing the damn trailier for WotLK, the fact that its taking this long to be released is just annoying since we have nothing else to look foreward to until the updated talents are released.

Gamestop currently is showing a November 3, 2008 release date on their website for WotLK.

While various retailers are giving ETAs of early November, I am not expecting it to be released by then. However, being released early November is icing on the cake and, for me, an early birthday present.

I am very interested in what the WotLK expansion has in store, and I think my luck is making me wait until its release to chew on, rather than the lovely taste of the now-available beta. Good thing I have it reserved. :D

I don't see why it couldn't be released in conjunction with Blizzcon. The timing is about right.

Please stop posting dates from stores, the only reason they have a date listed is because they need to have one to offer pre-orders.

Official price and release date have NOT been announced by Blizzard. In this case, the price and release date were determined by the GameStop e-commerce staff, (comprised of overpowered warlocks), using a combination of 6 and 20-sided die.

I've been to one store and could reserve it, but it's a "standard" edition.. Anyone know or has heard if there will be the usual "collectors" edition for wotlk? That's the one I really want..

We have not yet made any determination about whether there will be a collector's edition of Wrath of the Lich King. We'll be announcing details such as this closer to release.

That said, there likely will be a collector's edition.

I'm hoping that there will be a collector's edition. I'm itching to "upgrade" my reserved copy to the collector's should such an edition become available for WotLK.
