WotLK Beta Keys selling for up to $1000

There are many discussions around the World Wide Web on how much Wrath of the Lich King Beta Keys are selling for. Over at Yahoo! They're reporting about how one key went for $1,000. Are you surprised about this? I'm not. Then again, most are and think it's a crazy thing to pay that amount of money for a "simple" beta key.

Let's think about it for a moment shall we? We all have hobbies and interests and while some love to pay a lot for tickets to certain shows and what not – others pay to see things earlier. In this case we're talking about access to the beta of World of Warcraft's highly anticipated icy expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

Now, the question is, how much would you be willing to pay for early access to WotLK? Apparently some will pay a lot. Others rather wait. I know of someone who sold her key for close to $800, so 1000 is very possible. I'm also sure the cards from Blizzard's World Wide Invitational go for even more, since you get a special pet in-game as well!

Lich King will be out sometime this year, most likely in November or December. Having a few months early access to the beta for a price isn't that strange to some, especially since many players feel they've used up all the content that WoW has to offer.

To me, sending 1000$ aint worth it. I rather want to see the email "Beta key" in my inbox but that didn't happen so I wait it out.

I think this article is looking at this the right way - everyone has their interests, and invest money in them to make them happy.Lets think of sports - people pay rediculous amount to have the latest sports kit of their favourite teams, and some pay huge amounts to go to see their team, while others are quite happy to watch their team at home in their living rooms. This is much the same. WoW (and gaming in geneal) is a big hobby for many people (I'm assuming everyone reading this would agree...) and some take it more seriously and are more willing to invest in it than others.
to some, paying $1000 for a beta key is mad, but the guy sitting at home watching sports on a saturday might think the same about the guy who paid extra money for that VIP ticket to the same game they are both watching...

I'm not surprised that some individuals would be willing to cough up so much cash, especially for a beta key. Personally I am not one of those individuals, even if I had that much extra income to blow.

Blizzard usually conducts a stress test correct? I mean it seems silly to pay (if there will be a stress test) in which they allow the remaining opt-in folks to join for free. Granted, Im not knocking it, if you got it, show it off. It just seems silly!

"especially since many players feel they've used up all the content that WoW has to offer. "

And how smart is that , how long will the expansion actually last for them when it hits then ?

    Some people...

I have registered for a key , and if i get in i will most likely just check the DK out. Save Northrend for my mains. If i dont get in , ill just wait until its released. There are other games to play if WoW is too boring right now. 8)
