World of Warcraft

Whorecraft Starlet Suspended from WoW

Kotaku is reporting about a Whorecraft star being suspended due to someone else's actions in-game. Now, I'm not entirely interested in the whole real life porn meets video games idea, but to suspend someone over something that wasn't even their fault is ludicrous.

Kotaku wrote:

Mia Rose, hardcore gamer and pornstar, who appeared in several episodes of World of Whorecraft, told Kotaku that she was banned from the World of Warcraft over the weekend after a fan recognized her and mentioned her webiste in a public chat channel.

This leads me to something interesting that happened while we were at BlizzCon interviewing some of the costume contest entrants. It turns out that two of the "night elf druids" were actually women from World of Whorecraft. This of course led to some obvious video edits, since they advertised their new website in the interview as well - which we can't really show on Curse - but it was a good interview none the less.

We interviewed quite a few of the entrants and even some exhibitors who play WoW, so we'll try to get those interviews done soon.

var FO_120 = { movie:"http://dev.curse-gaming.com/static/flash/flvplayer.swf", width:"625", height:"360", majorversion:"7", build:"0", bgcolor:"#FFFFFF", allowfullscreen:"true", flashvars:"file=http://videos.cursebeta.com/stream2/premium/580.flv&autostart=true" }; $("#flvplayer_120").click(function(event) { UFO.create(FO_120, "flvplayer_120"); $(this).unbind('click'); });

Nimloth took time today to write a recap in his blog about the interview as well.

Just to note, I don't believe the person suspended was at BlizzCon; the two females there commented that their characters were fairly low level.

Now on to my question; why did World of Warcraft become so accessible to porn? You've had modifications to client files in games in the past, but how many games can truly be credited with having live-action pornography created, centered around the game? I surmise that it's simply the sheer number of people playing the game; you're bound to find someone from every walk of life playing.

That said, I really hope Miarose gets her account status fixed, because it's incredibly silly to suspend someone like she was.

    I think some of you are jumping the band wagon and flaming Mia just because, whether the reason is she is a porn star, you secretly wish you could get some action or because it is the only way you get to interact with one. Adult celebrity status is a fickle thing, especially when dealing with a crowd of horny teenagers. Then theres the other side of the fence; the people who will defend her up to the high heaven just because she does what she does. I'm sure both are types of people she has learned to deal with, particularly given the situation she is in.

    I also think Mia used poor judgement in using her name and proof of identity for whatever reason. If she wanted to remain anonymous, it is not a hard thing to do over the internet. If your career is as controversial as an adult movie actress and you divulge your antics to a crowd of younger gamers, well, expect to have controversial reactions.

    Does that make the 'witch hunt', as this resembles so clearly, justified?

    No, it does not.

    I do not know exactly all the specifics on her suspension to make a statement as to the just or unjust account action on Blizzard's behalf, other than that it seemingly appears that action got action taken based on another person's linking in public chat. As I stated on Kotaku, I have invited Mia to private message me the exact details around this event and form an opinion as to wheter or not she was treated maliciously by the GM based on that.

    As for the rest of you;

    Feel free to discuss this topic but keep in mind that this is not the WoW forums where you can sling personal attacks and profanity around as if you're Rick James. Keep it civil and within our rules and all will be well :]

    Mia's Story hit fark.com today.

    I personally hope she gets her account back and she doesn't leave the server.

    I personally think that Blizzard has on numerous occasions, banned and deleted threads and players with no congruency whatsoever, while permiting flagrant insults and open hostility towards many minorities (homosexual community, black community). So it's ridiculous that they would ban someone for someone else's posting.

    The company moderators have always been mediocre, misleading and unprofessional, engaging in insulting condescending and superioristic attitudes, (naming fangtooth, drysc and of course, tseric).

    I recommend the company to do a better job at adminsitrating justice on their forums.

    Orky, Akama horde.

    I cannot see any good reason for suspending this woman's account. As long as she doesn't advertise her adult materials in-game, she should be as free to play the game as any of the massive number of gold farmers. This seems more like some kind of retaliation on Blizzard's part.

    Wow you really dont get it do you?

    I couldnt care less who youre boffing for what amount of money. Thats your business. My issue with you, Mia is that you used your own acting name in the game then claimed innocence when people recognized you. What in the hell were you thinking? Or were you thinking at all? If you really wanted to keep who you are in real life under wraps, Im pretty sure you could have come up with a better name.

    As far as banning you? I dont know all the details, but I'll say one thing: The person who spammed your site should be banned as well.

    I suggest keeping a lower profile in the next game you join.

    Best of Luck
