New AFK Rules in PvP

Blizzard has completely changed their stance on people being AFK in the battlegrounds and instituted a much stiffer penalty for people who are non-participants in the BGs and trying to leach honor.

Initally the report AFK system only ensured that they would receive no honor for the BG if enough people reported them unless they engaged an enemy in combat. Now the penalties range from removal of honor points to losing recently acquired PvP gear and even account suspension is there are enough infractions of this sort.

There are many threads on the Official World of Warcraft Forums about this and many blue responses. This has been a major problem in WoW Battlegrounds for quite some time and hopefully this new system will finally end this cheating practice once and for all.

Go blizz! Been in so many BGs now where there have just been me and 9 others trying to actally win, and the worst bit is getting to drek and trying to convince a squishy to be a tank because all of the druids/warriors/protection paladins are botting it up (Holy pala here btw :) )
that brings me to one other point - I've noticed a use of bots, where they go off on a run and have an auto-attack macro of any given spell/castserquence that applies to ayone in front of the target. this means they are getting into combat but still being able to afk. I normally just jump over their head and do it the dps way, From behind :P While this is fun, is it possible to do anything about this, or are we gonna accept the fun and easy kill, and just not loot them so they are stuck there and eventually get hit with the report?

"Why don't they just change the way honor is gained?

Base Bonus Honor off a percentage of Damage/Healing and Flag Captures, and stop giving group honor unless you do damage to the enemy?

I don't know, maybe this is the way to go where Blizzard plays Policeman."

And the poor few who hang back defending the GY/bunkers/towers?
    Or the Prot specced warrior.
So no, it shouldn't based of a percentage of damage/heal. That would also mean that people in highend gear would get all the honour.

blizzard will look at the log and they will not take gear or points just because one a-hole reported you.

And how about defending? How do you differentiate between a defender and afker? I just hope this doesn't mean that defending is impossible since it means risking high penalties.

A totally excellent move. Makes my day to see Blizzard doing the right thing for a change. When you allow a cheat you condone and empower them. No good comes from that. This should have been done months ago.

What is really scary is allowing a FIVE-YEAR-OLD play WoW. The game is rated T (Teen) and the content is questionable even then.

If you allow a five-year-old access to your game, then you also need to be held responsible for the results. If you allow him unsupervised access, you deserve to be banned.

For the reasonable out there, if enough players use a good AFK mod that automatically calculates and reports the AFKers, they would be eliminated virtually overnight.

Blizzard frowns upon sharing accounts as well. This is your fault, not Blizz's.

  • Sat, Jan 12 2008 6:15 AM ()

I feel sorry for you chaos. I don't think you did anything wrong.

Blizz frowns upon sharing accounts because they want more money zeke. Just like your not supposed to share drinks at restaurants.

As for WoW being inappropriate for a five year old I think that is bunk. WoW is rated teen for it's use of alcohol (I don't find that inappropriate. Having a five year old at the table wouldn't stop anyone from having a glass of wine), suggestive themes (cartoons are chock full of 'em), blood (which is barley noticeable and unrealistic), and violence (see cartoons ... again). Sometimes getting your game rated "T" is a strategy to appeal to their target audience. Some people see that a game is rated "E" and automatically form certain opinions of it.

Guess no one can ever do PVE while in AV. There are several quests that help out the team without having anything to do with PVP. Blizz should take out the mine quests if they are going to do this.

  • Sat, Jan 12 2008 6:15 AM ()

And so you got flagged AFK and then banned for 72 hours right? That'd be fun.

Its about time blizz took some better action like this I don't care who it is AFK, leaching of ppl who want to play and deneying those who want a place in a bg to actually take part is just wrong for once blizzard got something right I hope...

and Chaoskirby1 if your brother is 5 and playing wow then 1/ he should not be as its a 12+ age rating on the game and 2/ blizzard do not allow sharing accounts

So if you got a ban its your own fault not blizzards

  • Sat, Jan 12 2008 6:15 AM ()

FINALLY! This has been TOTALLY needed! I mean, i was in an Eye of the Storm match and FOUR people were afk. They should be banned. As to your 5 year old brother playing bg? You should be banned. Because it makes the game miserable for me and everyone else playing in the battlegrounds

  • Sat, Jan 12 2008 6:15 AM ()

afking is not moving your character. just sitting there. which is MUCH different than "defending". all you have to do to stop the afk is to get in combat. Everyone defensive about this is PROBABLY an afker. This rule kicks ass. They need to crack down Harder.

  • Sat, Jan 12 2008 6:15 AM ()

think of it this way, when in a av and someone is doing an auto attack mod... that boting. thats a very long ban i beleive. so also put in a report that includes for bots

First off, it's clearly not in the spirit of the game for people to use afk to leech advancement..

But any game that needs the vendor to step in and threaten to ban people for using what would be considered normal behavior outside of the BG's is very flawed imo; they need to look at the BG and Honor implementation and get that right, rather than use a stick to route behavior down a particular behavioral path, which is what this is.

What concerns me more is the system to get into the BG's in the first place, which is to join a queue and wait an unknown length of time, and then to keep busy doing something until that time arrives, otherwise you will be kicked out of the queue for being afk, and at no notice. So, what do you do, well you can't go off and do anything meaningful because you run the risk of being ported to the BG's half way through. Then to add insult to injury, they will not port you back to where you were when you entered the queue, which could be half way round the world, if you decided you wanted to do something meaningful (after all how much level 70 content sits just outside where the BG's are), instead you get ported back to where the BG NPC is.

Come on Blizzard, sort the whole BG system out, once and for all please!
