WoW hits the big 10,000,000

World of Warcraft has finally done it. Blizzard Entertainment has reported that the hit MMORPG, World of Warcraft, has hit 10,000,000 (ten million) subscribers world wide. This is a massive milestone for not only Blizzard but also the MMO world.

Currently the world markets are looking typical, with Asia boasting the biggest share of the total, coming in at 5.5 million subscribers. North America has 2.5 million and Europe has the smallest percentage with 2 million. This comes directly after the holiday season, which Blizzard is holding responsible for this new number claiming that many new players came to the world of Azeroth and many old players returned in waiting for Wrath of the Lich King.

World of Warcraft has now cemented itself as one of the most popular video games in history as well as the most played Western MMO in the World.

The question now is will Wrath of the Lich King gain Blizzard another 1,000,000 subscribers by this time next year? We will have to wait and see... Perhaps this could be the last time we see World of Warcraft breaking records.

BUT NOTE - Blizzard is not saying that 10.000.000 players are paying for this game at this point. They are saying that 10.000.000 accounts have been payed for since the game started. That is a WHOLE diffrent thing. And tbh - if the expensive adverts did not get them 1 million more subs - then lol.

According to my quick count, there are 223 US servers, and 236 European servers. So if the numbers are correct, the European realms are overall more sparsely populated. Just dividing these, you get average 11211 accounts per US realm, and 8475 accounts per European realm.

Actually, the profit is the only thing that matters. I don't know how much profit they are making. Neither do you. The fact is that Blizzard knows that the people griping and complaining about all the little crap that people are griping and complaining about make up the minority of their user base. Most of their base just plays WoW for the fun distraction that it is. Maybe they will fix all this PVP crap. Maybe they won't. I won't care because the PVE aspect (not raiding, just questing in the world and running through dungeons) is where WoW truly shines.

The article reads: "10,000,000 million subscribers world wide".
Shouldn't it be "10,000,000" or "ten million" ?

Well I don't particularly like the idea, but congrats blizzard, here's the reason btw why i don't like the idea:

Blizzard will soon be running a monopoly, meaning other really really good game makers wouldn't bother with the MMORPG business because of the huge competition and it would be hard to enter the market with the rpgs out there already.

Secondly, they won't try as hard because there's no real competition, meaning even poorer help and support than we already have.

Thirdly, blizzard really should start thinking about lowering the prices, are they dumb or something? I can guarantee at least an extra 2 million people would join WoW if they lowered prices to around £5 a month (not sure what that is in dollars sorry, but it's around 7.5 euro estimate) I know running the game business may cost a lot, but the profit margin here is unbeleivable. I mean at least Bill gates gives around $50,000,000 to charities to help the poor, blizzard probably buys a load of 'hot pockets' for their staff.

Basically, over 10 million accounts now, no need for the ridiculous price anymore, and it isn't as entertaining as other games, Call of duty 4 online is better imo and a lot cheaper.

Not saying WoW is a bad game or anything, it's great, but I'd certainly like to see some other games competing against blizzard so blizzard actually fixes bugs and the unbalance with arena classes. If we all went on strike we'd force blizz to lower the prices, blizzard NEEDS us, so basically, we can control them, let's organise a strike :)

I'm glad for WoW gaining even more users. Currently this MMORPG got best atmospehere then other ones I tyed myself. And I'm don't care about BLizzard's monopoly on MMO market. If any new RPG appear just like another MMORPG it is ok. But EVERY MMORPG developer said their game will beat WOW so hard so noone will play WoW as soon as their one will be released (like Conan, W40k online). And I'm pretty happy that they all will fail. Like Lord of the RIngs Online did.
