2.4 Info Compilation - Patch Notes Style

We now have a patch notes version of the information released so far, for those that don't feel like reading huge paragraphs to get to the juicy tidbits. You can check it out below, but as always, this is a work in progress as the information is released; this may not contain info for your class, but don't consider that as the class being ignored in the patch!

We've included information about Sunwell and other various things shared previously, so new information is in bold.

General

  • Characters will now retain talented spell ranks so when they retalent they do not have to relearn the spells from trainers. (Source)
  • Spell Haste: Spell haste now reduces the global cooldown on spells, down to a minimum of 1 second. This change does not apply to melee and ranged abilities. (Source)
  • Sunwell Isle has been introduced to the game. Players can access Sunwell Isle by traveling north of Silvermoon City, in Eversong Forest.
    • Magister's Terrace, a new 5-player dungeon has been introduced. Players can fight their way through the demonic Burning Legion to face off with the instance's final boss, Kael'thas. There are both Normal and Heroic versions of this dungeon available.
      • The initial bosses will drop Superior (Blue) quality items, while Kael'thas will have a 10-item, Epic quality loot pool that he will drop items from.
    • Sunwell Plateau, a new 25-player raid dungeon has been introduced. Players will ultimately face off against the Burning Legion's demon lord, Kil'jaeden.
      • 6 bosses in total are available, including Brutalicus -- a pit lord who has lost his wings, Kalecgos the enslaved blue dragon, a Fel Dragon, female Eredar twins, a Dark Naaru, and of course Kil'jaeden.
      • The final 3 bosses must be unlocked by the server through completion of a set number of daily quests available on Sunwell Isle.
    • Sunwell Isle introduces the new reputation: The Shattered Sun Offensive.
    • Sunwell Isle brings with it many new daily quests to both increase reputation, as well as unlock special goals and bosses within the two new dungeons.

PvP

  • Players will now be able to purchase level 70 Superior quality PvP items from reputation vendors in Outland. (Source)
  • Diminishing Returns have been removed from the Honor System. This now means that killing someone worth Honor will reward you with that Honor instantly, rather than each night during Honor calculations. (Source)
    • A player under Resurrection Sickness is worth no Honor.
    • A player who has died 50 or more times in a particular Battleground is worth no Honor for the duration of that Battleground match.

Arenas

  • The Shadow Sight effect now increases damage taken by 5% rather than dealing damage periodically. Duration reduced from 21 seconds to 15. (Source)

Druid

  • Lacerate will now scale with Attack Power, causing it to deal additional damage. (Source)

Mage

  • Spellsteal will no longer overwrite a longer duration buff that has been stolen. (Source)
  • Players can now only carry 80 Conjured Manna Biscuits at a time. (Source)

Priest

  • Fear Ward can now be used while in Shadow Form. (Source)

Shaman

  • Healing Grace now also reduces the chance that all of your spells will be dispelled by 10/20/30%. (Source)

Warlock

  • Ritual of Summoning can now be used to summon players into instances. Provided the player meets all entry requirements, they can be summoned in from anywhere in the game world. (Source)

Warrior

  • Endless Rage bug fixed. The talent should now generate substantially more rage than previously. (Source)
  • Off-hand critical hits from Whirlwind will now trigger Flurry and Rampage. (Source)

Dungeons and Raids

  • All 25-player raid bosses that drop set tokens will now drop an additional token. (Source)
  • Gold rewards from 25-player raid bosses have been increased. (Source)
  • Gems obtained through Heroic difficulty instances are no longer Unique-equipped. (Source)
  • Loot dropped by Doomlord Kazzak and Doomwalker has been changed to Bind on Equip. In additiona, the cash dropped by these bosses has been significantly increased. (Source)
  • Scale of the Sands reputation will now be awarded in Hyjal at a much higher rate. (Source)

Professions

Enchanting

  • A new recipe to transmute Void Crystals into 2 Large Prismatic Shards has been added. This can only be used once every 24 hours. (Source)

Fishing

  • A new Fishing Daily Quest has been added. (Source)

Items

  • Items intended for Retribution Paladins have had their stats adjusted. Retribution Paladins should see an increase in dps as a result. (Source)
  • Players can now only carry 80 Conjured Manna Biscuits at a time. (Source)

User Interface

  • The Looting UI has been changed. (Source)
    • Items that are Bind on Pickup that only you can pick up (such as Heroic Badges) will no longer trigger a confirmation dialog.
    • The Bind on Pickup confirmation dialog will now display the item name being looted, making it easy to identify if you're looting the correct item.
  • The Interface Options menu has received an overhaul. Along with many code changes that helps resolve taint issues, there is also the ability for AddOn authors to add in their own custom options.
  • The Combat Log has been revamped to allow true tracking of multiple targets at one time through AddOns.

The removal of diminishing returns for honor is going to be one of the most popular changes in the game for a long time, I know it appeals to me.
The user interface changes sound nice, especially the multiple targets tracking, as this should hopefully improve the likes of threat meters somewhat.
A fishing quest appeals to me, being one of the few in my guild who considered fishing worth leveling up.
Would also be nice if the reverse could be done and large prismatic shards can be converted to voids, since i've never had those from disenchanting.
Im gonna love the into instance summoning - gonna make me useful again.

Finally they add the item to the loot confirmation box. Can't say how many times I've freaked out wondering if I looted the correct item.

What would be awesome is if UI creators will be able to create tabs for their addons in the interface options section. It would be really nice to have all the options I need to worry about in one place.

so haste will no longer reduce the cast time of your spells and will only effect global cooldown? so spells that have cooldowns longer than global will be unaffected. this sounds like a big nerf to me.

I know i really like the void crystal to LPS change, being an enchanter, and most guilds will like that (nice way for me to make money off it too, selling my cooldown for it)

They are fixing the lock summons back into instances. i feel thats going to cause alot of ninja'ing

  • Fri, Feb 1 2008 10:56 PM ()

Let's say you want to cast 2 instants then a 1.5 second cast to start a battle. Like my lock... Corruption, Curse of Agony, and then a Fear. I'll be able to do it in 3.5 seconds instead of 5.5 seconds. That means I can get it done before the enemy hits me in most cases, My fear won't be slowed down or interrupted, and I can start laying on the shadow bolts or drains. definitely not a nerf in my book.
