World of Warcraft

Scam Warning - WoW: Cataclysm Alpha Test

There's currently a very convincing email scam going around at the moment related to Blizzard's trademark of Cataclysm. World of Raids contributor Postulio tipped us off to it, and I wanted to pass this on to as many players as humanly possible. As you can see by this thread, they've even gone as far as creating a fake "trailer" to build excitement for this email.

However, this is not a real alpha test invite. It prompts you to download a .rar file for the "Cataclysm Installer" which is actually a keylogger. If you've gotten this email, delete it; do not follow the links provided in it. If you've mistakenly taken this as a real invite, run Antivirus software to ensure your computer is clean of any keyloggers and change your World of Warcraft account password immediately.

I would also encourage you to purchase a Blizzard Authenticator if you want added security, or download it for free if you're an iPhone user.

Blizzard never, ever invites random players to alpha tests of their expansions, especially when the expansion hasn't even been announced yet. The likelihood of it actually being in alpha (whatever the name is) is very small. In fact, we don't even know if Cataclysm is even related to World of Warcraft at all yet, so sit tight for BlizzCon, and be sure to ignore these emails. When Blizzard is ready, they'll be sure to let everyone know what Cataclysm is and when players can expect to get their hands on it.

Also, i have seen megaman post a few good things... so he is not a complete bad guy.

Agreed. Every run in i have had with Megaman has been bad, he insults WoW, Curse, and wont even reply when he gets... uh, 'told' i guess? He was a *** to me, and i asked him for clarification, no response. I posted the actual info, and sprisingly what he wanted me to see was not there. This megaman guy has no respect from myself, as like i said. He insults everything.

Megaman why do you always complain about every single little thing, yet you pay for the client?

You do realise that they are not god and dont search the internet day in and day out for little things like this.

And besides, im willing to bet Cataclysm is the title for the movie they announced yonks ago. That or a TCG deck / comic.

Sure, if any Authenticators were ever available anymore.  I've been trying to get one for 6 months now.  >.<

Dont mean to triple post, but there are also PLENTY of videos on youtube that also have links to download the "FREE KEYS!!!!!!!".. They have comments disabled so people cannot say it is a scam. However, they disabled them after they got a few people to say things like "Wow this is great! The new class is amazing!" and "Alpha is a bit buggy, but damn Maelstrom is awesome!"

The video is of the trailer btw.

Btw, i604.photobucket.com/.../scammers.jpg is the link to a picture somebody from WoR took. This looks VERY legit. Even the looks of the blizzard logos, and the way that it is typed reflects that of which Blizzard would do it.

Why SCGroot, congratulations on winning Douchebag of the year award!

Point is, the people who took this went through a crap load to make it seem real. Yes you would be stupid to fall for something like this even though it looks legit, but there is no need to act like an ass.
