Well thats not the same as Shadow Sampling. Shadow Sampling only works for shadows, and makes it more realistic. Anti-Aliasing is just so things look smooth, and there are no jagged lines.

anyways, so do you get on the WoW forums?

  • Mon, Aug 24 2009 6:12 AM ()

    NERD reply,

WoW does multisampling of 4+ at higest setting, if I remember.

    NERD TIME! :D

Oops i mean Shadow Sampling (Instead of source). This is the only picture i could find that shows you what i mean.

    www.cgsutra.com/.../vol_halo.jpg

In the first image, its sample 1. Its what wow uses. Its just a 'perfect' shadow. The one next to it (Not a great picture for comparison, but the only one i could find) has a multisampling of 3+. The second one has a more realistic look to it. ;)

hehe no apologies needed, the browser messes up all the time :D

But yes i see your point about Warhammer. Although to be a bit more clear, they did not sell then to fight off warhammer sales, but to fight off recurring subscriptions to War.

War released sometime mid september. WotLK release Nov 13. Blizzard is very very sneaky... ;)

But ya im playing wow again, its fun. I have yet to run into the instance issue, i have ran 7 today. So what do you mean by the shadows scare you? they dont scare me. And there is only 1 source so it looks kinda fake. ;)

But man... Do i wish that STV would be just a large lava pit withe 950457753425894303 lava elementals walking everywhere dropping deuces of fire. I hate that place so much.

    oopomopoo.

Lich King was released at that time to take the 'stint' out of WAR marketing push and if Blizzard could have left the release until Christmas, they would have.

Tried the settings and forgot that I do not play with the shadows settings on, since it used to freak me out when I raided. Anyway scared the crap out of me, when I was attacked by a mob..:-)

    oopomopoo,

Blizard released Lich King at that time to counterattack the subscriptions loses to WAR and so leaving it to Christmas would have been a bad business decision. Christmas is the perfered time to release games, but not always the best time, depending on your competition's activities.

80% of Blizard revenue is not from hardcore players, but people who raid 1-3 days a week or pvp. You do not want lose them because you implementing a business model that will piss them off. Blizzard would make money yes from 20% (40% max) of players, but do you want to alienate other 60-80% by saying, if you can't pay, you do not play.

Anyway time will tell, but I do hope for all our sakes this expansion pack is as good as the BlizCon says it will be.

I did try the settings from your link and scared the sh1t out of myself, because I have the shadow setting on off.  Anyway I was fighting a mob and wondered were more were coming from, not realising the shadows, were playing tricks on the eyes..lol

Nooooooooooooo my beautiful homeland of Teldrassil. T_T So unfair. I declare that the Night Elves shall make it through this and not be affected as much as the Horde.

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 4:18 PM ()

    what do you mean divided?

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 3:25 PM ()

All i can say now is *sigh*. This is getting outta hand. I mean COME ON!

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 2:33 PM ()

Also, i am reinstalling wow. This expansion got to me. :S

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 2:32 PM ()

Oh soul, i know they want money. I am saying that is not their only objective, like other people say. If they were in it for the money, as i said before, why are they not selling during christmas? thats terrible marketing. I know selling instances for money would be the end of wow, but i brought it up anyways as they could still do it. There would still be hardcore raiders that buy it.

And yes like i said before, it could use an upgrade in graphics. Although i personally dont see a necessity for it. Also remember that with WotLK, they released graphic improvements. Both in the main graphics department and the entire northrend area.

By the way, did you try that macro on the video that i posted? it looked a lot nicer. than the standard max settings.  You should also know that i am not aggressive toward people that speak their mind, but toward people that blantantly state something. (example; your arguements, compared to somebody stating "Wow should DIAF, it sucks")

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 9:22 AM ()

before you comment, I run my graphics setting at Max.

  • Sun, Aug 23 2009 9:20 AM ()

    oopomopoo,

You are a little native not to think that Blizzard are not focusing on their number one objective, to ensure the profit/revenue stream of WoW until Blizzard can release a new game to take over. This is a business and stating that

"PS, if they care about money so much, why the hell are they not selling every instance expansion for money" If Blizzard could get away with that practice , Blizzard would. But that would kill their business, so fast and at the end of the day it is a business.

The game developers/creative Directors and artistic people, who develop the game in Blizzard, do have strong attachment to the game and want to make the best product available, but I can tell you right now, if that business model could work and customers would accept paying for instances, it would happen. The expansion is coming out to ensure WoW stays on top of their game, due to next year's competition.

As for the graphics comments, Hmm my graphic card runs at 100-150FPS at moment and the graphics is average, one area, WoW can improve greatly. I measure improvement not by what Blizzard released 4-5 years ago, but what is the standard at the present time.

Keep focusing on the past, but that has already gone. As a paying customer, i expect higher standards than 2004 and so its about time  Blizzard release an expansion pack that give better value for money than their past efforts.
