Paid Character Re-Customization Comes to WoW

Character Re-Customization FAQ

Character Re-Customization allows you to change a variety of things about your character (race and class excluded), and can be accessed via the new link added to the Account Management page.  A character may only be customized once every 30 days, so make sure your choices are what you actually want, otherwise you'll waste $15 and have to wait to change it again!

The FAQ can be found here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?tag=CRCFAQ

What is Character Re-Customization?

Character Re-Customization is a paid service that lets you change an existing character's gender, face, skin color, and other cosmetic features determined by his or her race and gender combination. When you perform a Character Re-Customization, you may also change the character's hair color and hair style (similar to the in-game barbershop) and select a new name, if desired.

Can I change my character's race or class?

No, you cannot alter a character's race or class. You may only change cosmetic features of a character through Character Re-Customization.

How much does this service cost?

A single Character Re-Customization costs $15 (not including applicable taxes). This flat fee covers all customization options available for a single character.

How do I know if I will be taxed?

Players in select states in the U.S. may be subject to taxation when using the Character Re-Customization service. This list includes but is not limited to:
- New Mexico
- Texas

How will my guildmates and friends know I customized my character?

The re-customized character will remain in the same guild and will stay on the friends lists of anyone who had added it. If you changed the character's name, the new name will appear on friends lists in place of the old one, so we recommend you tell your friends and guildmates about the re-customization as soon as possible.

Can other players use this feature to get off my ignore list?

No. Characters whose names have been changed will remain on your ignore list, and their names will be updated automatically.

Will this affect a character's mail or auctions?

Existing in-game mail and auctions will not be interrupted or canceled. However, after you change a character's name, other players will need to send new mail to the new character name.

Can I customize multiple characters at once?

The Character Re-Customization service only allows one character to be customized per transaction. If you would like to customize multiple characters, you will need to process and pay for each one separately.

What will happen to the character's Armory profile?

Once you have completed the Character Re-Customization process, the Armory profile will be updated to reflect the character's new look and name.

When will I be charged for the customization?

You will be charged immediately upon pressing the confirmation button on the Character Re-Customization page.

Is there any way to cancel the re-customization while the process is pending?

Because the credit card is charged immediately upon confirmation, you cannot cancel the process once you have pressed the confirmation button and the character customization process is underway.

After I've paid, how do I go about selecting the new gender, face, name, and so on for the character?

After your payment has been processed, you will see a new button when you log in to World of Warcraft that lets you re-customize the character's features (and name, if desired) at your convenience. You do not have to re-customize the character immediately.

Are there any brand-new faces, horn styles, or other cosmetic options available only through Character Re-Customization?

No. The face, skin color, and other cosmetic options available through Character Re-Customization are the same as those already available to players at character creation.

What if the name I want is already in use?

Character names are unique on a per-realm basis. You will not be able to choose a character name that is already in use by another player on the realm.

If I change the character's name, what happens to the old name?

Once the name change is complete, the character's old name will be locked from use on the realm for 90 days. After that time, the old name can be claimed by any player on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to use the name again, you will have to reclaim it before anyone else does after the 90 days have passed and the name is made available again.

Can I change my character's appearance and name again if I want to?

Yes, but after completing a Character Re-Customization, that specific character cannot have his or her appearance or name changed again for 30 days. After 30 days have passed, you would need to purchase another Character Re-Customization or Paid Character Name Change if you would like to choose a new appearance or name. For more information on Paid Character Name Changes, please refer to our FAQ.

Is there any way to revert to the character's original name after Character Re-Customization is completed?

Once you have selected the confirmation button to complete your name change, there is no way to immediately revert back to the old name. The old name is locked from use on the realm for 90 days, and you will have to perform another Character Re-Customization or Paid Character Name Change after the name is made available again. For these reasons, and because the Character Re-Customization charge is immediate and non-refundable, please be certain of your selection before you complete the process.

And on the note of blizzard saying that they would never implement something..

    Bullshit..

Any time a Blizz poster posts anything they say..

    "we have no current plans"

If you think of it, and the demand grows big enough.. they will cave in.

Currently, Blizz has mentioned to make leveling 1-80 easier.. and I quote to:

"Promote re-rolling" (Forgot the exact word used for re-rolling)

Sure... currently they say Classchanging is against their beliefs, and the essence of having multiple chars..

But if enough people whine for it to happened.. -it will-

Those things as actual race/class change.. are the only things left that you can alter which -do- in fact change the way -everyone- plays the game.

So far its only cosmetic changes, which make the player feel better when playing his chars.. for a "small fee"

How on earth would this help an Ebayer?

Its already impossible for players to track other players?

It.. always has been since they introduced the name change... and always was before that.. because all you had to do was make a char with the same name on X-Target Realm, and you'd get a free rename..?

I don't see all the hassle..

This is an overpriced service.. for people that value the looks of their pixels too much already..

Blizz, is the one that takes care of goldspammers/ebaying/selling accounts..

and this feature does jack **** to enlare/lower the ability players had to track other players..

You're still as clueless whenever someone transfers as the next nub..

Why weren't you all this pissed off when PvE -> PvP transfers opened? Oh.. I get it.. that benefitted -you-.

QQ less about stuff that doesn't affect the game more than purdy pixels or a graphics update.

I don't think its right at all. Blizzard have always said they won't implement things like these and I think it will only be a matter of time till you say race and class paid changes. If you don't like your name, class, race, features you should just roll another toon like everyone else did for 4 years.

I'm sure lots of customers have asked for this option, but to give it to them just makes a couple of very dishonest, sickening practices that much easier:

    1. Buying/Selling Characters and Accounts

    2. Becoming a huge pain in the ass (spammers, ninja looters, general social debauchery) and escaping community accountability by changing your name.

Another instance of Blizzard prioritizing profit over player interest, because they know that as old players quit playing, newcomers ignorant to Blizzard's past player tramplings will take their places.

Up next - Blizzard-website-hosted service for trading/buying/selling characters, gold and levelling services.  Props will be impossible to get for your accomplishments, because everyone will assume you just paid cash for them.

Sex change operations $15.00. Contact your wow account for more info. LoL

You can't change the race because of their racial abilities, and because you might not even be able to play that class on whatever race you chose.

Soon there will be a paid service for them to pray for our toons. Retarded, cynical and greedy only scratch the surface of this. I am sure it will be very popular.

i think it's pretty cool...i made a female draenei priest but soon after fell "in love" with the way cloaks fall over the male's tale....but i do agree that a race change all together would be totally awesome....been wanting to make my gnome mage a draenei for a while...

but i still stand with my original comment, if they're guna add a sex change!? then why not a racial change? i would personally pay 15 to change both of my toons

  • Thu, Dec 11 2008 12:22 PM ()

It's a bit pricey for what it does, but at least it has all customizations (short of changing race) all together. Still I wish I had known about this before I had re-rolled my mage though. /sigh

  • Thu, Dec 11 2008 12:19 PM ()

15$ for small changes like that! what a ******* rip-off. I'm guessing billions of dollars in yearly profit for them is not enough so they add this ****.

  • Thu, Dec 11 2008 11:44 AM ()

At least this includes the name change service so you don't have to pay for that seperately... And blizz can still track everything even if someone uses this service. I doubt they'd give us players that capability though.

This is the most retarded thing I have seen them add yet... and to pay real money for it no less. I could understand if you wanted to change your facial expression or like the tauren horn style... but to change gender? Come on... Lets try and be a little realistic here.

Those who say this is a waste of money - I completely agree.  I believe the feature should never of been added because all it does it benefit ebayers (which I suspect most of the people replying here that it's a rip off, are.)

Take this crap out of the game, take name changes out of the game, all of this crap which allows you to disappear and pop up on another server after ninja-looting all your epics on another is bull.  Either that or make some sort of system where you can track any/all characters and alts on that account so you can track down people in-game and then still allow the customization.

Blizz, by making this available is basically saying - "It's ok to ebay your characters" - Then again, it could be that this would be a good system to find out who the ebayers are and do account checks on people who want to do namechange/sexchange/appearance change.

  • Thu, Dec 11 2008 7:05 AM ()

    Agree with most here.

    Complete rip off.

Should allow race change as well for that money, even then, should be cheaper.

Stop people over doing it with the time constraints.

I would love to change 2 of my char names but not for that cost.

Nah this is pretty cool, I know a lot of people that wanted it.. just check the forums. Including myself.

I made a female Pally back in the day, got her to 47.. and really wasn't feeling it anymore.. silly I know, but it was mainly due to the way female BEs hold their shield.. um behind them? lol. Anyway.. I didn't want to reroll, I ended up getting her to 70 though.. but now's my chance to make her a dude, that can actually hold the shield in front of him XD

    O.o
