World of Warcraft

Ezra Chatterton Passes Away

I tend to take life for granted every so often, and I'm sure most do.  When I saw this posted on the official WoW forums, I immediately remembered that Ezra was the young man who had one of his wishes come true thanks to the Make-A-Wish foundation.  He was able to contribute directly to the game he loved to play -- a pastime that allowed him to escape the unfortunate reality that he suffered from a brain tumor -- by not only creating an item for the game, but also a quest and the first to own a Phoenix mount.  His character in World of Warcraft was a Tauren Hunter named Ephoenix, on the Norgannon realm.

My heart was literally in my throat after seeing the post; it's deeply saddening to hear, especially for someone so young.  All of us at Curse would like to offer our sympathies for this tragic occurrance.  Ezra is and will always be in our thoughts, and memories, as someone who had the courage to stand up to illness and continue doing something he enjoyed.

You can find out more about Ezra's battle on his website.

erothil: Voicing one's opinion is fine, but it's very important to take careful consideration of how you voice your opinion when related to something of this nature. I was personally bothered by your comments, and would have been even if I didn't originally write this article. Some of the things you said were completely uncalled for. If you had simply said something like "I don't really find this to warrant the attention it's getting." then I think everyone would have been okay with that. However, you posted some relatively mean comments instead.

There is an organization for terminally ill people. Maybe you might have heard of them. http://www.wish.org/ They are a pretty big deal you know. This young man knew he was going to pass on and made his final wish one having to do with WoW. It is not up to you to comment on him or his family and how he was raised. What kind of sad upbringing you might have had to begrudge a child his dying wish. I assume you must be the type of person who would also prefer to off everyone with birth defects or terminal illness. I guess the world wouldn't have missed Beethoven and science would be at the same place today if Stephan Hawking just threw in the towel when he got sick right?

If other people are able to voice their opinions, why am I not able to voice mine? its extremely unlikely that the Chatterton family will read this, and thus I cannot be said to be hurting anyone? And for your information, my comments were NOT sick, That's totally uncalled for, and subjective.

I've deleted all comments related to erothil's sick and perverse contribution to this article. Thank you everyone for the reports.

erothil: I hope you read this again. I've deleted your posts and this is a warning to you. Next time you post something like that I will ban you from this website.

The cruelty of fate in the death of a person so young is only tempered by the vastness of joy that is shared during their short time with us. May God bless your soul and comfort your family, Ezra. Fare thee well into thy dark night and may our paths cross one day hence upon a happier circumstance.

:( I always smile when I run by his quest guy (and did so yesterday going after the candy bucket). Well this makes a gloomy rainy day even darker. Big /hugs to his family.

Good luck on your next quest Ezra, I pray that we may face life as bravely as you faced death. Thanks for all you've done, thanks for inspiring so many. Perhaps we'll see you again as the Phoenix is reborn. Until then...

Although I didn't know Ezra, I believe he must of been a very spacial young man. I hope you are in a better place now, and your gaming (WoW) family will remember you. R.I.P

That's sad. I know a bunch of thoughtless individuals (kids) complained when he got his wish, but if it made his last days better, then it was worth it. Thanks Bliz for keeping what's really important first and for most, and my thoughts go out to his family.
