Opening the Lich King Collector's Edition

Community member Havok received his Wrath of the Lich King Collector's Edition this weekend and decided to film the opening of it to show everyone what they can expect to see inside!  He was kind enough to send us a link to the video of him opening it, which is embedded below.

So, have you gotten yours yet? The launch is less than a week away!  As a reminder, Curse is located in San Francisco, CA and we'll be at the midnight launch party at the Gamestop on Powell St. with goodies to give away!

How can the likes of online stores ship the product early? I'm lucky enough to own my own retail computer shop, but don't even have stock as yet!!!! It's only slated to arrive on the 13th (AU release date is the 14th.) I think Blizz should look at the retailers (online & other) & ban them from selling their products for 6 months. It must be a fair & level playing ground for all.

Does it really matter?? Two weeks from now nobody will care and things will just be rolling along. So much attention to "having to be FIRST". I guess some of us just have lives outside of this ***game***

                 See you in Northrend

Upon install, game appears to reinstall patch 3.03. You already have these downloaded though so there is no wait. If there is a pot launch patch, it appears they will not make it live until they hit the Northrend server gerbil.

...95% installed, it takes a while for disc install, like 30 minutes on a solid system.

Yes the retailers had permission to ship early to meet midnight release. I received mine from gogamer, and Amazon, and Gamestop are also doing this. Someone flip the switch, I want to get my ice on!

Getting it before launch date, nice. Not being able to play it, fricking priceless... Even if you used a time machine and got it 3 years ago, it's useless until they turn on the flag on the servers, and that hasn't happened yet. We're just hoping they do it on 12:01am launch day. We'll see...

I'm hearing more reports of folks getting their copies today (and a few others have told me they got them this weekend now). Anyone reading this able to confirm that you've also gotten yours? If so, where'd you order it from?! :P

Aw. The video is no longer available. :( I wanted to get a sneak peek at what I'll be getting in 4 days.

You can already download the expansion from certain places, the final release retail iso, to save time installing. All you need is to buy the game at midnight and register it and start playing :)

didn't know it was legal for sellers to ship it to end-user customers before release date.

  • Sun, Nov 9 2008 6:38 PM ()

$278? the collectors edition was only $80 for all that stuff

  • Sun, Nov 9 2008 5:38 PM ()

Don't tell me people waste 278$ for a bonus DVD, some art book and a vanity pet?

Angel, What patch would you be talking about at release day? 3.0.3? it came out on Tuesday so everyone is already patched up for expansion so there is no advantage for him other than the fact that he gets to install his game earlier than most of us, Everyone that played WotLK Beta already have the game set up to play also, all they have to do is input the beta key on release night and start playing.

Wait, that isn't right... let me rephrase... he is one of the few who gets to open the holy grail of games before anyone else does in 2008...

  • Sun, Nov 9 2008 9:22 AM ()

This is such a rofl... Oh well, congratulations to that guy though - He just opened the holy grail of games before anyone else did in 2008.

Youtube banned him! Dark you are partly right in that he cannot play till after midnight but wrong in that it does not give him an unfair advantage. He will be able to download the patch while the rest of us are still putting the game on our computers. Blizzard will have extra bandwidth for the inevitable patch which always follows. He will get it at full speed while the rest of us share that bandwidth. How big will that patch be? A few minutes for him? Hours for us, maybe.
