World of Warcraft

Scourge Invasion - Day 5

Phase 5.5

We will call it phase 5.5 since this phase started 6-7 hours after the beginning of phase 5. A new Forsaken camp appearead in Shattrah, and the leader of this camp Grand Apothecary Putress gives a questline hinting at a cure for the plague.

The Wrath of the Lich King pre-launch event just entered phase 5. Get ready for zombie-infested cities!

  • The duration of the You're Infected! disease has changed from 2 minutes to 1 minute.
  • Argent Dawn healers are almost completely gone.
  • Most cities are now filled with zombies.

Also Tigole made an interesting post about the new Karazhan boss.

When will Prince Tenris Mirkblood be removed from Karazhan?
He's around for approximately 10 days. Because he's rare, he drops a bat for everyone. The Ripper is the rare item. (src)

Hotfix - Necropolis spawn rates
We have a hotfix going live tonight during the restarts that will address the issue. (src)

Stay tuned for more updates.

Ok, I have to add my 2-sense into this madhouse of rediculously repetitive dribble about the zombie infestation. I've seen it stated already by countless players that the plague was meant to symbolize the coming of the lich king and I think it did a fantastic job of that. I personally loath PvP, and I rarely (if ever) enter battlegrounds for this particular reason, however I had no issue with the zombie infestation because it served to extend the story and immerse players in the world of Azeroth. I think Blizzard did a fantastic job in executing this one time only event. I do have to say that I agree with the "whiners" that paying for the repair bills sucked, especially when you weren't hoping to die. But I feel that the feeling of immersion as well as the experience of turning on fellow players to infect them with the undead plague was something everyone should get to do once. Blizz I give you major credit for this one!

I would guess that the only ones that think this plague is "fun" are the players that usually pvp anyway. For those of us that don't it's nothing but extremely annoying. No one pays to log on and die, rez and die, rez and die. That's beyond idiotic.

It was okay to start with, then was a bore until I tried to play a low level toon and not only did it become a stupid waste of time, but impossible for low levels. Go in the cities and you died. If you're already in a city as a lowbie, go to the AH or the bank and you're dead. Don't even try to leave town chances are you die before you get to the gate. all the dying broke my poor lvl 15 just paying for repairs for getting out of town. Just finally gave up and farmed Nether Dragonscales with my main for a couple days. Made a complete Netherstrike set from all the farming. Guess ya gotta take the good with the stupid. I won't mention the godaweful lag right now.

This event was fun when the phase 1 and 2 were on, but phase 5 is insane...

Ok, so I don't know how to get the most out of this stupid plague stuff. I get super annoyed and then quit for awhile then go back to trying to figure out what I can get out of this Really, I am more annoyed and irritated than entertained!

If I wanted to get ganked every time I come near a trainer, bank, or flight master I'd play on a PVP server. One day, maybe two would have been ok, but this is just inane.

Great event, well done Blizz for making the world less static. I look forward to seeing where this goes. To the moaners, its only been a few days, get a life... You can go back to your boring daikly grind when the evnt is over.

I doubt blizz wil ever read these forums - but if they did - they would see 50% in favout of the crap zombie idea and 50% against and pprolly think thats not to bad - but believe me I am not impressed - dying before the loading screen completes on multiple occaisions is not my idea of fun and is rapidly persuading me to go buy Age of Conan where the graphics are much better - the combat play much better and blizz lose one more account - ok its only 1 account and they have millions - but in a year or so time they may be think otherwise - where did all our subscribers go ??

This has gone beyond ridiculous. Even if, hypothetically, I were interested in playing in this zombie-infested wasteland that is now World of Warcrap, it's gotten to be a big waste of time. If you're not below level 20 or above level 70, you can't take a step in any city or townin my realm without getting ganked by a bunch of morons...ooops, I mean zombies. Or, do I?

  • Mon, Oct 27 2008 8:53 AM ()

Sorry for the run-on in previous post. I had put in paragraphs, but apparently they get removed.

I've been able to continue leveling my lowbies (66) by just avoiding the cities. When I need bank/AH, I've been mailing junk to a bank alt that I moved to Ratchet. It's not as convenient as being able to go there myself, but at least I'm not adding to the Lich King's army:) Brought my 70 pally to Org to try to help clean it out. The problem is that there are still people who get mad at you for curing them / killing their zombie. I've never been /spit on so much.. and that includes opposing faction when I was on a pvp server. My attitude has been to kind of RP it. My pally will fight the zombies and cure all she can, but if she gets turned, she does her zombie best to eat brains. On the necropolis bit... I found that finding the thing and watching where it shoots its "message" has more than once led me to an untouched invasion point. Everyone seems to all jump on one where you have to fight for every one you want to tag. That strategy stops working so well once you get the summoners/doom shadows. It just doesn't seem possible to single-pull them.

in my realm this "invasion" really kicked RP'ers on action ... Last bastion of hope against this invasion in Stormwind is Cathedral of Light where few of us last survivers keep our line ... for now that is :D I honestly can't wait how much "worse" this thing gets before our lines fall down ...

  • Mon, Oct 27 2008 6:44 AM ()

Actually the necropoli are extremely easy to master with decently skilled players. With a kara geared prot war, kara geared BM hunter, and a sub-kara geared ret pally, we were able to take on all four of the shadows simultaneously. It was difficult, but none of us died and we got 120 stones to show for it.

"Eagle_Eye said 10-26-2008 3:58 PM (14 hours, 4 minutes ago) So what will the hotfix actually do? Limit the number of bat drops? Or give a Ripper for everyone?" The hotfix will most likely increase the spawn rate of necropolises in zones. The two lines posted in this news topic are actually unrelated to each other (the rare boss explanation does NOT relate to the hotfix, the hotfix is in reply to complaints of not being able to attack necropolises).

tried for 2 days to master this necrpole quest. completely not posible. to many bloody, idiot 2 man crews trying to kill those shadow guys. could have been better implemented

This is so incredibly lulzy. I can get infected on one of my 70s, walk up to a lowbie, and inform them that they are about to die. Epic.

As a low level player just recently getting into WoW.. well I have come and gone from the game several times and never get too high in level as a casual gamer.. anyhow.. as a low level player the general idea of this event seems neat but the execution is poor. While those of you with lvl70s might think it grand, the person logging into their new character hardly finds dying constantly for the first hour of their game time fun at all. I think the zombies perhaps should have made themselves level appropriate to where they were appearing regardless of who they converted/infected. My character actually died before the cinematic at the begining had completed. And guess what, the zombies were all swarming around the graveyard too.

i think its an awesome idea, azeroth is going to war...the run in to a war probably wouldnt be all pretty fluffy and without carnage!!! awesome move Blizz!!!

Ridiculous event. Quest givers, Auctioneers and Innkeepers are perennially dead. Not much thought put into this at all imo.
