I don't get it. Why do they see it as a global problem? there are enough ppl who can just play and still have fun with other ppl IRL and other games.

you know you guys act like wow is a drug but the real truth of the matter is that poeple choose to play the game. they are not forced, but in the end it is a game that nearly never ends. Yes i heard that poeple have died, lost friends, jobs and or been consumed into it but the problem isnt the game its the poeple playing it. sure its nice t oget away from reality but in turn its just seperating the one who can keep there prorities straight and the ones that cant. Lesson: if you cant maintain your life due to any game.... then you simply dont need to play it.

I agree, they seem to be saying all WoW players are addicts - in my eyes its just a game, and when I get spare time I log in and have fun! I have a part time job, family, kids etc and of course they come first! You will always hear about extreme cases like this, but I would think the majority of WoW players are like me, and realise its just a game, which would never take over their lives!

WoW is not a problem for everyone, yes I have 2 level 70's and more on the way but I also have a full time job, wife, 2 kids, etc. and WoW is just something I do to have fun.

I think people need to look at the real problems in today's society and quit trying to find something to place blame on.

You guys are missing the whole thrust of the article its an obvious satire. The author is not seriously comparing WOW to drugs. He (or she) was obviously just as fed up with starchy media people calling wow the new addiction.

I have played video games since Atari days, and I have played WoW since it pretty much started. I have no addiction, it's just a really great game to me, and I play responsibly. Video games are my hobby, and I agree with what the comment was before that now they are trying to find something else to blame societies problems on. I am healthy, I don't smell bad, and I work and support my family, and we do family things more than I play WoW. But I would rather play games than go to a bar or casino and blow my money. You want to look at addicting games? GO to your nearest casino and talk to those poor folks giving up their paychecks.

First of all, This article is obviously an over-the-top satire about what's becoming a concern for a lot of people.

Second, while obviously not all WoW players are addicted, there are a number that have every symptom of being so, the same as to a drug but without the physical ingestion. Physiological addiction is no less scary than physical addiction, and can be harder to shake off. I speak from experience as a formerly addicted WoW player.

When you realize that you are destroying your life and your health just for one more shot at that shiny item for a virtual avatar that essentially means nothing, there's a serious problem. You can't tell me that's not addiction.

While I can agree that there are some people who simply cannot stop playing, I would strongly disagree with the generalization that these few represent the rest of the WoW community. The article , as someone has already stated, was very "over-the-top". Taking these two examples and claiming that anyone playing WoW behaves exactly like them is an extreme stretch.

so that means every single wow-player is an addict? lol.... not really an article i would trust...
a bit intresting though... sometimes thinks to myself if im an addict or just enyoing the game alot... playing about 4-14hours per day... what do ye think? :P
