I gotta admit that im one of those kids that plays 15-16 hours a day. Only on weekends though. And I guess it impacts my social and educational life. Because I procratinate all my education till the last day, at the end of the night. And usually dont part take in any social activites, not because I dont want to but because, where I like, is NOT the safest place to walk around, but if my friends ask me to go somewhere or somethin I usually go.

Wonder if the parents know about the parental controls button on WoW's main page? It's fairly simple to set up a set amount of time a child can play for. Addictive like crack....I think not, but lack of parental supervision would be a better term for this article.

the words "Social recluse" and MMOs dont really match... since MMOs are multi-player games(aka multiple players play the game at the same time.... infact we could relate WoW to a park in this aspect).

And btw.. who is the idiot responsible to let the kid play 24 hours/day??? their parents... Stupid parents that cannot take responsibility for their child.

Now what's next? WoW causes cancer? WoW is a direct cause of obesity?

I've noticed the Dailymail has an oft extreme stance of being anti-gaming. There are many articles that read like this one floating around. Though I guess it could be contributed to the whole sensational wording of the article. But if I believed this I have a bridge to buy in New York.....

As has been stated many times here, one can game extremely but don't be dumb about it. When I have a marathon as a reward for something I always have a drink on hand and some food. Now also try to make sure you have some water as well as any pops and such. Its good for you to swig one down once in a while to keep the body balanced.

Also the parents for this should be dragged off and given a long lecture on how to control their children. If I became aggressive when my Dad/Mom asked me to do something I was warned and then punished. No pleading asking to stop crap. I didn't like the punishment, then don't disagree. Parents these days need to 'grow a pair'. A kid talked back to me like some of the comments on Dailymail said he/she would be grounded for at least a month, at best. A kid decides to try and hurt me physically as a result of me taking it away said game/etc, well they'd best be ready for an epic but kicking. That is the line you don't cross. PERIOD. To many parents shy away, which just teaches the children if they do that they can get away with it.

Uggh... enough ranting. Short of it, keep track of your kids people and for goodness sake don't hurt yourself playing a game. Its a freaking game.

lol when dont i play it, the game is waay addicting only cause its too fun. but hey who am i to hate something i cant get enough of, kinda like drugs lol. i play on average about 4 hours on weekdays and 9 hours week end days. its just too fun lol

Oh wow, so is driving cars an addiction also? If no one drove then there would be a huge drop in car accidents (duh...) and a case of seizures, the warning to which are clearly labeled in almost every new age video games manual, makes WoW like Crack? the joke may be comparable but I think crack is much worse than a video game, something the parents can stop.

Clearly put, this incident is caused by the kids parents allowing him to perform such an act, many WoW players myself included know that it doesnt take a brain surgeon to know when to stop playing and take a rest, these thought and actions were apssed onto us by our parents and as such the idiotic parents of this child should have taught him to take regualr breaks. Don't blame this on WoW itself blame it on the parents of the child.

if a child is allowed to play that long, then it is the parents fault, NOT the game, that the child has been hurt. it is the parents responsibility to teach the child good habits and to rectify the situation when they observe bad habits.

When i read this article all i saw was "A child is left for 24hours in front of a computer with no parent supervision".

Sounds to me like the kid is just stupid. Even if you play non stop, take the three minute breaks when flying to go get food. And why doesn't the article say anything about the crappy parenting?

You can say whatever you like, but "the players who are addictive" are actually characters, and those characters are part of WoW, and Blizzard does it's best to make these characters be played as much as possible by adding new content, so you would explore it with "the players who are addictive", become addicted to the them and become addictive for other players yourself. I hope my point is clear =)

I like the "socially withdrawn"-part. Ya...because we're all outgoing people; not like some of us already didn't care to interact with people...

Love how "doctors" completely neglect the fact that some people have 'Addictive-pron' Minds; you could send them to a bar and they'd become an alcoholic, or to a casino and they'd because a compulsive gambler, or any other potentially addictive activity.

But now, let's all blame the ONE THING they got 'involved' in FIRST (this is the key)*

*most of these 'game addicts' are to young to gamble and to young to drink.
