That's what I did. I had the choice of WoW and EQ2 at the time (first ever MMO's I've considered/been able to play), but choose WoW due to my love for the Warcraft series, and the familiar history it brought with it. Having also played some solo Diablo II (did not like the way things worked on battle.net), I knew that the name "Blizzard" was almost a guarantee of a type of game I wanted to play, and of great quality.

imho i think alot of it had to do with the fact that WoW doesnt have high end requirements to play, so that being said ppl with less then decent comps like myself can still enjoy a great mmo with a little lag but all in all playable. i first started playing on a 128 vid card with 256 megs of ram. its was pretty bad compared to what im useing now but the point is that alot of mmo's require alot higher requirements. that an the fact of the gameing cards. i know other mmos have done it long before mmo but my local walmart never carried the cards for them but they do WoW but im sure that has to do with popularity.

That's what got me into WoW as well. My friend was HUGEly into EQ, but I thought it looked horribly boring... After a while, I saw the news about WoW and showed him the preview cinematic trying to convince him to try that rather than EQ2. I've been a major fan of Starcraft, Warcraft 2, and primarily Diablo 1 and 2, and I knew Blizzard's trademark "When it's done" philosophy, so I gave in and got the game. I didn't play anything else for 2 years... and I didn't even like the concept of MMORPGs when I started!!

Now I'm heartily enjoying the crossover MMOFPS game Hellgate: London, since it's essentially a FPS version of Diablo with MMO components like Mail and AH, with some WoW on the side :)
