v1.3
- Changed the warning to a custom sound which is much easier to ear
v1.2
- Fixed a bug that caused other effects fading from you to trigger the warning
v1.1
- The addon now tracks all shields buffed on yourself, due to combat log range limitations its unreliable to track an earth shield buffed on someone else so it doesn't.
- Changed the sound warning.
v1.0
This is the first version of the addon, it was designed to help shamans get the most out of their watershield by warning them when it goes down or expires. This way you can recast it ASAP in order to get the most mana regen possible. For now it only tracks the water shield.
- "/sup test" plays the sound you should hear when your water shield goes down
- "/sup on" turns enables the addon
- "/sup off" turns disables the addon
---TROUBLESHOOTING---
- If you don't hear the sound at all make sure you set the sound channels higher in the sound & voice menu of the game.
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

PacerDawn saidUnfortunately, not everyone plays with sound on or can hear. You might also try displaying a message to the screen where the player can easily see it, like such:
UIErrorsFrame:AddMessage( "*** " .. arg1 .. " ***", 1, 0, 0 )

thecrazy saidHi,
Automatic casting of spells cant be done anymore in fight since BC so forget about that, as for the warning getting on your nerves this shouldn't happen, it only warns you ONCE when the shield expires so unless you keep recasting it all the time even at full mana (which would be useless) this wont happen.
I already realized that the sound warning isn't loud enough so i'm already testing a few other sounds.
As for a timer why don't you activate the display of buff durations in the interface menu? Of course i could implement a timer but it seems redundant.
BTW if you renew your water shield before the buff expires you wont get any mana regain from it and simply refresh the timer, then you have to wait all over again (unless someone hits you of course).

minamulder saidthecrazy, is it possible to add a feature where it only tells you to renew the watershield if you are below a certain threshold of your mana bar?
I can see this getting annoying when I'm full on mana.
It would be like Mowater on crack. :D

thecrazy saidI was rethinking my position on implementing this but i just read that the WS is changed in 2.3.2 to a 50mp5 buff that lasts 10min... so im not sure if it would really be needed.

Sportfarmer saidWhat really needs to happen on this is an autobuff option. Like for example.. when the timer reaches zero(from 60s to -1s for mana effect) it will auto cast which ever of the 3 icons for each shield you have selected. Just like how your weapons have a green trim around them when they are placed on a action bar. Theres options for each shield, that allow you to set the timer, whether its active.
I don't want to think about anything. I just want it to happen automatically. You could even get into scheduled events. Like, earth shield first, then autobuff mana shield, and then back to earth... with an option to "Loop" those 3 events..
So many cool things you could do with this and make it a"must have" shaman addon. If you could make this stuff auto self cast based on a timer you set or whether its completely removed by attacks... it would be a big hit no question.

xWoWxQTx saidthis addon has the right idea..but if maybe there was a bar that shows it's timer aswell it could help, and when testing/using i can't hear the sound warning
-- just one shamans opinion =)

thecrazy saidHey thx,
Im thinking of changing that sound for something else, in mid fight with all the other sounds playing its easy not to hear it. Im open to suggestions as to which should would be best. Right not im going to try the sound that plays when opening the talent window (instead of the close sound of the same window).
I could try an external .wav file but I've had a bad experience with those, sometimes they wont play. A problem i dont have when using sounds native to the game.

witiwap saidThe sound is too quiet, even with it turned all the way up. In a raid theres no way I'm gonna hear that sound. I think it would be awesome if it could just put a scrolling message in the middle of my screen instead.
