  • About Diamond in the Rough UI
  •
This set of addons completely change the look and feel of the original Blizzard UI. You WILL need to take some time to get used to it. The longer you play with it, the more apparent the functionality becomes. Uses 1280x1024 or 1680 x 1050 resolution. Uses a fair amount of memory, so be warned, under 1G of RAM my have trouble with this package. Easy to follow readme, making it easy to be used by anyone. (Please read it and follow it before asking me how to install it.) Any suggestions are more than welcome. Please leave a comment with your requests for a cleaner UI. If I can do it and does not deviate too far from the basic layout, I'll make it happen. Kaz P.S. If I miss any settings like, oh, I dont know.... custom chat channels... just leave those channels by typing in /leave . Hey kaz, when are you going to update the pack?

  • June 23, 2008, 05:18PM (1 month ago)

I havent been playing WoW for a while now. Glad to see you though Live. Arka plays still and needs me to update her package. I havent done so yet, but as soon as she asks Ill make an update on her account and post it. There wont be many changes to it, just updates to the mods. If you have any that are out of date, Id install WAU from wowace.com, MobMap Updater from MobMap.de, and auctioneer and gatherer from auctioneeraddon.com and gathereraddon.com. I left my email in the readme file for any other questions.

    download bulkmail
2 different addons will be in the menu disable all by bulkmail2inbox. The outbox isn't needed since bliz updated the mailbox in game.

Im using ArkInventory for the bags. I use it because you can seperate all items into different sections, so its not all in one big clump in the bags. Thats done by the gear icon at the top of the bags.

I found that bug about the clicking on someones name to whisper also. Thats the Wow Instant Messenger. Its an annoyance, but I really like the messenger, I hope they fix it soon.

Bulkmail2inbox I couldnt find. You mean it takes any wow mail and automatically puts them in your bag? Where can I find it to check it out?

  • April 5, 2008, 01:03AM (3 months, 2 weeks ago)

Your helping me a lot. Don't worry about being long winded. Something else I'd suggest is bagnon instead of baud bag. Its a much simpler layout that easier to customize and navigate. Gives the same functions just less menus you have to go through and you can customize the bag grid anyway you chose with simple steps.

I'm not used to X-perl that's all. I used Quartz so its a big change.

Hopefully by posting here I can help answer questions about the same issues I'm having (which are none at this point). Can help you email from blowing up.

Since you like addons I'd check out Bulkmail2inbox. I cannot live without this addon anymore. It generates a spreadsheet that's attached to your inbox window. 1 button press will pick up everything in your inbox automatically or you can chose them individually from the spreadsheet.

Oh ya another bug I found. You cannot click on a player's name in the chat window to send a whisper. You also cannot right click their name and chose whisper.

Ya I came to same conclusion to reinstall it. After reinstalling I've had less problems. I did figure out the move anything! option but it doesn't allow you to move your casting bar. Even after you move the bar it still shows up above your toon's icon.

Another bug you might want to look into is this:

When you first log in with a toon the default skill bars will be turned on. After you turn these bars off and only use the bartender skill bars you can no longer press esc to open the menu. You have to alt + F4 to close wow out. Once you log back in everyting works as intended.

Another thing you should add to your read me is that you need to make a folder for EACH of your toons. Simply make copies of the "Your toons name here" folder and rename it for each of your toons. Otherwise when you log in on the toon all the frames will be out of sync and the default UI will overlap on your UI.

I've had auctioneer for a year and a half. I was trying to figure out a way of keeping my data base. I haven't updated it since 2.4 so I know it has to be updated but I don't want to loose that much data of about our market.

I do love this UI. Everyone always trys to make a stripped down UI because of "clutter." I on the other hand like "clutter." This UI is an addon hog though. I just disabled everything I did not need. Some of it I have no idea what it does so I'm hesitant of disabling.

  • April 5, 2008, 12:34AM (3 months, 2 weeks ago)

Ya, Ive had the problem with the esc losing functionality and been asking aroung on forums about where the problem is. Instead of Alt+4, type in '/reload'. Itll reload the UI instead of logging out or closing out of wow.

Ill keep that in mind for the next readme, about each toon. Its something I over look. So much is involed with a UI this size that I over look many things.

As for Auctioneer, if you used the same version as it is now, all you should need to do is go into your saved variable folders for both character and account folders and copy your old .lua files pertaing to Auctioneer. Those start with the letters auc. Mainly the one named Auc-ScanData.lua, but Id suggest coping them all. If that dont work, you were most likely using auctioneer 4.0, this one is 5.0 and incompatible with 4.0. You may be able to use your older version, Im not sure, Ive been using 5.0 for a few months id say, not sure how well 4.0 works.

The casting bars can be disabled from showing up in the X-Perl unit frame under the player tab at the top. Once you have the player tab selected, on the left column, you should see cast bar check, and under it the option for the original casting bar. Check that one. If you check that one, you can uncheck the main option for cast bar and youll have the default blizzard one back. Id suggest using them both if you must have the original casting bars. The one on the xperl unit frames show you your lag also. If you cast, you can notice a red part on the bar indicating your latency. Once your cast gets to that point, your actually able to cast again. Some times you can cast way earlier than it seems. Just a little tip.

I hope this helps, I kinda get long winded. Im just trying to make it as clear as I can for you. If I lost you, let me know. Ive included my email int he readme if you have a question, I check it regularly during the weekdays.

Im glad you like it. Hope Im being of some help to you with fixing it up the way you like it. I agree with you, if you have the hardware to run it, why not. Ive never had any troubles with add on spam either.

I'm now having major problems with this UI. When I opened my engineering the addon wanted to upload the cache from the server. While that was happening I got attacked by a mob so I chose to skip this step. It locked my wow.

After logging back in all my skill icons are in different places. My keybindings are all screwed up. Bar 1 and bar 4 are over lapping. I put a skill in either bar and it shows up in both. When I stealth Bar 1 does not change over to the stealth bar.

Major issues with this UI atm. Need some help.

  • April 4, 2008, 01:58PM (3 months, 2 weeks ago)

Id recommend reinstalling the UI. Ive never skipped that scan process, so Im not sure if you can just delete the .lua files for ATSW to fix it. It sounds like an extensive fix. May be best to reinstall it. After installing, open each of your trade skills, fishing, cooking and first aid as well, while in a city. Its a one time thing. After this is done, its done. It dont do that each time you you open a window, just the initial time.

Ill add this to the readme so no one else has the same problem. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Only 4 things that really bug me with this UI if I can change it let me know how. I know nothing of making UIs.

    1. Energy ticker is under my toon icon. Very bad place for it. It needs to be hovering over my toon. I don't have time to look at the icon in the top every half second to see when I should be using skills.

    2. Casting bar has the same problem as the swing timer. Bad placement.

    3. Gatherer has a small transparent mini map at the foot of my toon. The small green dots (fel iron ore) is very annoying and not needed at all. Remove it.

    4. The buff duration bars are in a very bad position (once again). You have the icons under the toon icon but the duration on the top right of the screen. I think the default buff duration from bliz works just fine. Counter under the buff icon. No need for a duration bar to be all fancy.

Other than that I love this UI. Clean design. Gave me all the bars I'll ever need.

    1. Im not too good with rogue, but in the X-Perl menu, you can choose default enery ticks, or move them from place to place. To open the X-Perl menu, click on the MBF at the bottom right corner of your screen on fubar. This will bring up your minimap buttons (tight edge of the screen). Find the X-Perl icon and in the X-Perl window, either under global, or self tab, there should be options for that. Theres many options for X-Perl. Take some time to learn them. Youll be able to personalize your UI better to suite your play style.

    2. Casting bars should also be on the Unit frames. That option is also in X-Perl. If you want the default casting bar like the one you see, just in another area, you can move it. Press esc and in the menu, youll see an option called Move Anything! Click it, find casting bars, check the left box. Thisll bring up a grey box for the casting bar. Move it to your desired location and uncheck the box.

    3. For gatherer, you can turn it off if your toon is not needing it. Also in the minimap buttons, you should find a gatherer button. Click it. It should turn grey. This is the inactive state. For more cusomization, right click on that icon and go to the configurations. On the left side select general. On the right side now, itll give options for what types of tracking.

The transparent nodes under you are from the HUD feature on gatherer. When mousing over the gatherer icon, itll give you the tool tip, follow what it says to turn off the HUD. Its something like shift+click or something similar.

    4. If your happy with the default buff bars, you can go into your interface/addons folder and remove the folder there named 'ElkBuffBars'. This will bring you back to default buffs. Another add on named Buffalo, found at files.wowace.com is great for your purposes if you find the default buffs over lap the focus frame. Theyre basically default frames, only you can customize the size and placing of them.

Glad you like it. Im sorry about the energy ticker. I dont play rogue too often, so I dont really have an understanding for it as much as I do Paladin and Priest.

Let me know if you have any more troubles.

If theres any other features youd like to move but not sure how, let me know. Ill try to explain it to you so you can customize it for your style more. This is just my personal UI and I recommend anyone to know how to make changes to better suit thier style.

In the next version I will make it so that when you change stances, forms, or stealth, you will get different buttons on the main action bar. There will be less action bars visible, but the action bar buttons will be significatly larger. (Many of my guild mates are blind, or I have super powered vision.)

I'm personally not a fan of heavy weight, but your concept is indeed unique...5 stars for that :D My friend is an add-on junkie, i will let him know :P

Thank you very much. Im going to post a newer version very soon. I noticed a slight overlap for the pet bars when using classes with pets. Also, Ive made a Warlock set with minor changes to the UI and one for guilds. I hope he likes it. Oh, and theres alot of add ons, but not overboard. Nothing is redundant. Thanks for the input.

    UI is too messy!

  • Dec. 18, 2007, 03:08PM (7 months, 1 week ago)

    @TheNode

Too messy??? Yeah i guess if you dont do anything in WoW but stand around and look at your feet. Some of us actually play and play in a hardcore fashion.

Kazren, it's one of the nicer UI's i've seen on here and other sites and trust me I've seen A LOT. When yo make you're own UI you look at thousands of others.
