Increases limit of the Max Camera Distance slider in Interface Options to the very maximum possible (from 30 to 50).
This is the continuation of Rewad's ImprovedCamera addon which is fixed for WoW patch 2.4.
v2.4.1
- no need to wait for VARIABLES_LOADED event
- thus moved code from .xml to .lua (and saves using a frame)
Installation Guide
- Exit "World of Warcraft" completely
- Download the mod you want to install
- Make a folder on your desktop called "My Mods"
- Save the .zip/.rar files to this folder.
- If, when you try to download the file, it automatically "opens" it... you need to RIGHT click on the link and "save as..." or "Save Target As".
- Extract the file - commonly known as 'unzipping'
Do this ONE FILE AT A TIME!
- Windows
- Windows XP a built in ZIP extractor. Double click on the file to open it, inside should be the file or folders needed. Copy these outside to the "My Mods" folder.
- WinRAR: Right click the file, select "Extract Here"
- WinZip: You MUST make sure the option to "Use Folder Names" is CHECKED or it will just extract the files and not make the proper folders how the Authors designed
- Mac Users
- StuffitExpander: Double click the archive to extract it to a folder in the current directory.
- Verify your WoW Installation Path
That is where you are running WoW from and THAT is where you need to install your mods.
- Move to the Addon folder
- Open your World of Warcraft folder. (default is C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\)
- Go into the "Interface" folder.
- Go into the "AddOns" folder.
- In a new window, open the "My Mods" folder.
- The "My Mods" folder should have the "Addonname" folder in it.
- Move the "Addonname" folder into the "AddOns" folder
- Start World of Warcraft
- Make sure AddOns are installed
- At the Character Select screen, look in lower left corner for the "addons" button.
- If button is there: make sure all the mods you installed are listed and make sure "load out of date addons" is checked.
- If the button is NOT there: means you did not install the addons properly. Look at the above screenshots. Try repeating the steps or getting someone who knows more about computers than you do to help.
Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called "Localizations".
TOC Numbers (Out of Date Mods)
When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatibilities addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.
If you look in the upper left corner of that window there should be a box that says "Load Out of Date AddOns". You want to CHECK this box. Now simply go into WoW normally and all your mods should load. As of the 1.9 patch, you will have to do this after EVERY patch/update that Blizzard posts! If you encounter any problems with a mod after a patch, please be sure to let the author of the mod know so they can fix it.

Mac Support
WoW addons are not platformed based. As such, they can be used on either Mac or PC. You can extract both .zip and .rar files on a Mac using StuffitExpander.

Retgar saidWorks perfectly for me, just make sure you go into the Interface/Camera/and move the Max Camera Distance slider all the way to max after you install it.
If that doesn't wok, try this handy-dandy macro:
/script SetCVar ("cameraDistancemax" ,50)

arcadin saidSame problem as Sietelle....been using this mod forever and now it's stopped working. I've checking the interface options and it's set to 50...the mod is active etc etc, but now I simply can't scroll out to the 50 mark anymore.
Help! I'm not used to seeing everything so close up, I'm getting pawned in PvE.
Happy to test new versions/do whatever I can to get this working.

arcadin saidAfter much testing I can indeed confirm that this is working as advertised to 50...I guess I was so used to 250 that 50 seemed the same as 30.
SO wish Bliz hadn't nurfed the 250 setting, it was *great* for PvE. Now everything looks ugly as all hell so close up :-(

Sietelle saidmaybe i had thought that 50 was 250, was that what it was at before and now you can't do it? that may be why..but i'm not sure

Sietelle saidlately i haven't been able to get past 30 even though i've had this addon enabled and have messed with the slider in the interface options. not sure if it is from last patch that it's stopped working for me but the only way to make it work is if my character gets drunk and then i can zoom out to 50. it did work perfectly a few months ago though.

Hawahiew saidYou must remember to go into the interface options to change the max camera distance after you have installed this addon. Then scroll back and you'll definitely see the difference.

Tamzin saidThis addon does not do anything it has not done anything since this was made, I mean as in this new taken over from the other coder, version. The limit hard coded within WoW is 50 so you don't need this addon.

quikcell24 saidSame thing for me after I've downloaded this addon... it didn't really make any difference. So I think this is useless IMO.

Drool saidNo, you're mistaken.
First of all, the addon on this page has been updated over several major WoW updates to keep it working for everyone (and has had contributions from many people, not just myself - just look at the comments on both pages).
Secondly, and most importantly, this addon IS needed if you want to use up to the hard coded limit of 50 units. Why? Because the 'max camera zoom' slider in the Interface Options only goes up to 30 units. And thus, you're limited to 30. Installing this addon changes the slider range to allow up to the max the game camera zoom system itself will allow - 50 units.
I hope that clears things up. :)

Drool saidWhat exactly are you looking for? This addon has no user interface - it doesn't need one. All it does is change the way the camera zoom slider works, by extending its maximum range from 30 units to 50. Just install the addon, go into Interface Options > Camera and slide the cam zoom to maximum and then just forget about it.

Drool saidYou can *temporarily* set the camera zoom on first login with a trick but once you adjust the zoom level in game (mouse-wheel etc.), it snaps back down to 50 max.
The trick is as follows. You need to log out of WoW and edit WTF\Account\<account>\<realm>\<character>\camera-settings.txt and change cameraDistance to something like 250 or whatever. Save the file and log into WoW.
I recommend Notepad++ for editing the file. (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/)

humpmasta saidI only read one comment where someone else was having the same issue so I am posting mine. I have used smart camera follow mode since day one, and since I installed imp camera it seems to not change from 'never'. I've tried to figure out the issue myself with no luck. I un-installed the addon, even though I love it; yet, the camera error is still there, which lead me to check the config. I cant figure this out, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Drool saidSorry but I've been unable to reproduce your problem here - smart follow seems to work nicely with ImprovedCamera, fully zoomed out or otherwise. I suggest you delete your WTF folder or, if you don't want to lose addon settings etc., try delete the config.wtf file and your character's camera-settings.txt.
Maybe there's some other addon controlling smart follow - in which case, start disabling addons (a great way to do with in-game is with an addon called ACP, which comes distributed via WAU).
