TipTac - A Tooltip Addon
TipTac is a tooltip enchancement addon, it allows you to configure various things such as changing the tip anchor, the font, the scale of tips, plus a lot more. It can also show a special tip window for units instead of the normal one, which allows for extra customization, such as having it show buffs, debuffs, health and mana bar, this can of course be disabled if you prefer the normal tip.
To open the option dialog, just use "/tip" without any parameters. Use "/tip anchor" to show the anchor frame and position it as you want.
Current Features
- Based on the default mode in TipBuddy, but can be configured in appearance in many ways.
- Shows the buffs and debuffs of the target with cooldown models. Has option to make it only show castable buffs and removable debuffs.
- When in a raid or party, it has an option to show who is targeting the unit.
- Vast anchoring options allows you to change between Normal, Mouse and Smart Anchor, this is configurable for both unit and non-unit tips.
- Anchoring frame lets you decide where exactly you want tips with the normal anchoring option anchored.
- Able to change the font face and size for all tips in the User Interface. Uses "LibSharedMedia" if installed.
- Can show a Health and Mana, Energy, Rage or Focus bar inside the tip, which can be enabled or disabled as you prefer.
- Tips are getting updated at a customizable interval to display changes.
- Unit tip fades out of display when no longer valid, fade time can be configured.
- Allows for you to change the background and border color of the TipTacTip and any of the modified tip.
Layout Templates
Currently TipTac comes with a few presets, these are a collection of preset settings. You can find the presets in the options.
I plan to work on layout option so you can eventually save and load personal layouts. But for now I am looking for more layout presets to include in future releases of TipTac.
Special Tip Modification
TipTac does not only configure the tip for units, you can also use TipTac to modify other tips in the WoW Interface. The way they are getting modified are both in scale and appearance. The border and background of the modified tips can be changed to colors of your desire. You can disable this appearance change by disabling the option "Hook Special Tips" under the General tab of the options dialog. Currently these tips are getting modified: GameTooltip, ShoppingTooltip1, ShoppingTooltip2, ItemRefTooltip, WorldMapTooltip and AtlasLootTooltip. You can add more if you wish by editing the "TipTac.lua" file.
TipTac & MobInfo2
Since the 08.01.17 release, this should no longer be a problem since I renamed the config variable.
Apparently, without even letting me know, the author of MobInfo2 has made it so that when the option "Hide the other Tooltip" is enabled, it will disable the TipTac unit tip. To get TipTac to show this again, you just have to disable this option in MobInfo2.
Would have been nice if the author would have told me or at least write something in the MobInfo2 documentation. Because people are blaming my mod for not working due to this.
Saving Settings Per Character
If you prefer to have TipTac have individual settings for each your characters, you will have to manually edit the TipTac.toc file and change the line:
## SavedVariables: TipTac_Config
Into the following line:
## SavedVariablesPerCharacter: TipTac_Config
Lacking Features, Ideas & Problems
- Anchoring the tip depending on what content is shown, it being a unit or not, can be hard to determine as the call to GameTooltip_SetDefaultAnchor() is called before the GTT content is set, any solution? Due to this, some anchoring combinations might not work well if showing the TipTacTip is diabled.
- Scrab the entire TipTacTip and just modify the GTT. Although this could pose a problem to other mods which rely on scanning the GTT for info?
- The tooltip always fades for mailboxs, braziers, signs, etc, not sure how this could be worked around, any help on this issue is appreciated. This issue has been resolved somewhat, but I've not yet found out how to do it when those tip show on items which doesn't change the cursor.
- Cast Bar in addition to the already existing health and power bar.

Midnighte saidUse the Mobinfo2 command /mi2 to access it from here you want to check two things on the general tab. "Show Mob Information in the Tooltip" and "Instead of MobInfo-Tooltip use the Game-Tooltip".
This will fix your issue.

raisers saidGreat addon, is there a way to have fixed width notes in tooltips. I use mobnotes addon to have special notes on mobs and players but if theres too much text tiptac keeps it in one line over whole screen.
TinyTip had fixed width so notes would be in multiple lines and that is much better behaviour. Maybe i havent seen the option?

2drunk2funk saidI have looked for an option but not seen one, so forgive me if not seen it.
Tiptac has option to hide tip in combat BUT it does not hide when on a dead body, so, for example we are in kara and nuked guests with AOE and alot of dead bodies the TIP is constantly showing (and huge list of items they drop) as I move mouse around my GRID for healing, covering my GRID frames.
I have got the layout as I like and would have problems moving either the TIP or GRID as it stands.
Is there a way of disabling the TIP while in combat full stop, alive or dead bodies!
Thanks

Midnighte saidSounds like your using MobInfo2, its 1 start to your problem. I am sure you don't care about every green item that drops. Use the text command /mi2 on the Tooltip tab, there are 5 squares, each representing the quality of a drop, Poor, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic. Uncheck anything under Rare, or Epic your choice, this will remove most of the spam. The rest lies within Grid.
Use the text command for grid, /grid config Now, click on Layout, on the right side the options should come out, make sure "Click through the Grid Frame" is unchecked otherwise it will show the tooltips of the mobs under the grid.
Though not a direct fix, it will help until then.

2drunk2funk saidThanks for reply.
MI2 does not give me 5 squares for loot rarity, I will check for any updates.
I will set the Grid setting as well.

Hope that helps and sad to see that it looks like you are not going to be looking after the addon anymore as such a great addon like your others.

Midnighte saidLate reply, this isn't an issue with TipTac this is an issue with your default interface, this can usually be fixed with the repair.exe utility that comes with wow.

Aezay saidNote Regarding TipTacTalents
If you use TipTacTalents, and the default blizzard inspect UI, you may see problems with the players you inspect. This is because to get the talents of players you mouse over, you need to query their inspect data, and this in the process forces the inspect UI to update with the unit you just moved your mouse over. There is not really any way to fix this with the way it works now. As an alternative, you can use my other addon Examiner, which will not automatically update.

Aezay saidmaxloss, the string variable TOOLTIP_UNIT_LEVEL was probably changed for some localizations, although I wouldn't know. Showing player locations works just fine for me on the English client when I tested it yesterday.

Gryskar saidI have the same problem of location not showing on party member's tooltip since the last WoW 2.4.2 patch (the tooltip looks like the player was in range but it wasn't really). I have to open the worldmap or shift-clic there names in the chat window to see where they are :/ I am using a french client, there wasn't any problem before the 2.4.2 patch.

Aezay saidmaxloss, I cannot test it myself, but I changed nothing relative to that in the code recently. Are you using the english client? The "Show Tiptac unit tips" options allows you to configure the color and border of certain tips like the ItemRef, GameTooltip and Item Compare Tips.

maxloss saidHi, I have a problem, I can't see in the tooltip the location of a member of the group/raid, even if I'm out of loading range, and it's been like this since the last update !!!
If I uncheck "Show Tiptac unit tips" option, the location reapears, but the add-on become useless ^^
Last thing: I just wondered what this options was for: "Hook Special Tips", it's not so obvious to me and I don't understand what it does.
Thank you very much for developping such a wonderful add-on !

Beckenbauer saidAezay, when i start WOW without Auctioneer then will be no problem.
But i need Auctioneer! I need the information from the items what Auctioneer gives me.
I was testing different versions of Auctioneer, but it is always the same problem.
It don´t show correctly the items in bag when i move the bags below of the middle of the monitor.
With TipBuddy there is no problem, but TipBuddy hasn´t got the beautiful lookout and the correct indication (only percent and no numbers for example: 5678/5678 health) like health or mana bars as TipTac.
