- About Book of Crafts (fan update)
I have just updated this addon to work for BoP recipes, all credits goes to the original author, Blackdove.
(rest of description taken from original project page, slightly modified - http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/1014/)
Table of Contents
PURPOSE
BookOfCrafts (BoC) is a simple add-on which provide you with information regarding your other characters crafts. With it activated, whenever you display a recipe tooltips, it will list which character know this recipe already, which character may learn it now and which character will be able to learn it later.
In case no character is concerned by this recipe, a simple message is displayed.
Some special notes :
- By default, currently played character is not displayed in lists, because top
of recipe text should inform you about "known" state. However an option is
available to force current character listing
- When a recipe requires a craft specialisation, character should know this
specialisation to be listed. Knwing the base craft is not enough. For
instance, if your character knows "Dragon scale leather crafting", it won't
be listed for a "tribal leather working" recipe even though it is a leather
craft.
- Works with regular chat message hyperlinks, merchant, bank, bags tooltips.
However, if you work with add-ons which do not handle tooltips correctly, through hook functions, BoC may be unable to display any information. So be sure to check which add-on you have in use before blaming BoC ^_^
OPTIONS
You may access to options through 3 ways:
- with '/boc' command (or '/BookOfCrafts')
- A myAddOn button (my favorite way... if myAddon is installed)
- A binding key, through normal binding menu
Available options are :
- Same Faction: Search of characters is limited to same faction as currently
played one
- Show Skill Rank: If option is active, listed characters will show their
current craft skill level (for instance 'Lini (78)'. Otherwise, only the
name will be displayed)
- Show Chat Msg: More feedback is displayed in chat frame
- Tooltip colors: choose your own color for BoC tooltip text and background
- Display miscellaneous informative chat messages (used for debug generally)
- Show also current character in lists.
- Use Side Tooltip: BoC Information is displayed in a detached tooltip
COMPATIBILITIES
Information will be shown an any plan/manual/recipe in ...
- Auction House
- Merchants
- Inventories
This is compatible with
- AllInOneInventory
- Auctioneer new auction windows.
- BankItems
- CharacterViewer
- MyAddons
- MyBags
- MyInventory
KNOWN PROBLEMS
- If you delete a character date, It is not removed from list in option interface
DEPENDENCIES
There is no mandatory dependency. This is a standalone add-on
NOTES
This add-on has been thoroughly tested in French only. It is provided with Deutsch and English localization which I cannot test, so the quality of BoC behavior in those 2 languages highly depends heavily on users feedback.
CREDITS
My big thanks to Ayradyss, maker of "RecipeBook" addon. I've been a first user of this add-on, but found myself in need of something different and I have developped "BookOfCrafts" (also at this time, RecipeBook development was stopped). This is thanks to "RecipeBook" that I started to get involved in Add-on development.
However, there is no competition with "Recipe book" and Ayradyss. Perhaps you should check also this add-on as it is a great add-on that you might prefer for its different features.
Special thanks to Bburt for his overall help
Special thanks to Ghandi and Ayradyss for German translation
... and my thanks for all of you for your feedback

Lombra saidSorry, haven't been checking here for some time! But yes, it seems to work fine, haven't encountered any problems so far. Then again, 'twas just a minor fix. =) You may of course include it yourself!
I was thinking about adding a check for "Unique" as well (there are like two recipes in total that are unique), but wouldn't it be possible to simply (not that I know how it's done, hehe) scan all the lines of the tooltip for the requirement line?
About the target issue, it seems to be blocked by WIM (WoW Instant Messenger) as well, and probably even more addons. Again, I hear it's very easily tainted. I never use that particular feature though, so it doesn't bother me.
I have also noticed that my performance addons claims that BoC is using quite some memory. The "usage rate" seems to increase all the time. Around 700 kB as we speak and rising with about 10/sec. Now, I'm not experiencing any lag or other problems nor do I actually understand what all those numbers mean, but it just seems odd.
Maybe I should've posted this on your project page I realise now. Either way, I'm glad you're back!

Blackdove saidHeya there,
I've just found that you've made a "fan" update of BoC. That's a great thing you did by taking on yourself to solbe the BindOnPickup issue!
Is your fix working fine? Do you mind if I include your fix in next version of BoC?
Yes you're correctly reading my question. I'm planning to play Wow again, and I'll update BoC, of course!
If you agree, I'll give you genuine credit to your fix.
cheers!

Lombra saidAh now I see. I will, however, have to disappoint you that I have no cluee of how to fix it. The change I made to this version was very simple. Either way, targetting is very easily tainted so I'll basically blame this on Blizzard. You can always try out ProfessionsBook found here on the site. I don't think it has these issues and I will probably use that myself once a few bugs have been crushed.

Blackdove saidOuch that seems to be quite a big glitch... I'm currently having no access to wow as I have not still reactivated my account.
If you have any hint about this, do not hesitate to put some comment in the BookOfCrafts page!
cheers

Gorehunter saidIt's when I hit enter after shift-clicking their name into the chat box after typing "/target." If i just type the name in it doesn't have a problem.

Gorehunter saidI already had this problem before, but when BoC is enabled and i type /target and shif-click the person's name to target them, it comes up with something saying Book of Crafts is blocking this action.

Lombra saidI have confirmed this taint, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at taints. Is Book of Crafts the only addon that taints that function for you? I e does it work with BoC disabled but all other addons running?
Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood it first. Do you mean you use Shift-click to insert a player's name into the editbox and that's when it pops the "protected action blocked" or is it when you press enter afterwards? In either case this works for me, so it must be another addon interfering.
