  • About Identity
  •

Identity does the following:

1. Main name in Guild and Officer chat 2. Main Name in Channels 1 - 10 and BGs 3. Nicknames in Party and Raids 4. Your Zone Location in Channels 5. It saves the name per realm and per character, so you can have different nicknames and different mains for different realms or factions.

---

If your main character is a 60 Warrior named Tank and you are working on a new toon (level 10 Priest) called Healer, and both are in the same guild this addon would do the following:

Guild: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today? Officer: [Healer]: (Tank): How is everyone doing today?

If you turned the tell feature on and then whispered someone it would place (Main: Tank): after your Healer info.

If your name is WarNinja, but you like to be called Nin and you set your Nickname to 'Nin' then in paty or raid you'd see:

Party: [Warninja]: (Nin): Raid: [Warninja]: (Nin):

I added the Zone function in response to the global Trade and LookingForGroup channels. It's sometimes nice to say where you are.

Enjoy!

    Is this LK compatible yet?

Would like to keep it all in one place if possible.

I have looked through 2.0 and there's a lot I liked. Didn't like some of the structure on the zone, and the format command is bound to cause constant headaches. I found numerous ways to cause the format change to crash.

Have incorporated modifications with some additional changes of my own.

If life ever gets slower, I would like to add a GUI. I believe the GUI would be the one way to let us control a change in format.

Also, I think the zone feature should be completely seperated from the [%s] format, which will also give additional flexibility.

  • Not sure what the etiquette is here, but I rewrote Identity a while back for my guild, because people were using it but wanted some additional functionality and configurability. This is the first time I've exposed it to a wider audience.

I started my versioning at 2.0.

Nox, I hope we can work together on making Identity better. I don't know if would be best to fork the project or patch each other or what.

    Hello,

Just a quick note - there is a module for Prat that does something very similar to this, Alias:

    Quote:

Adds the command /alias, which can be used to alias slash commands in a similar way to the Unix alias command (default=off).

    Usage: /alias <command>[ <value>]

    - alias <command> to be executed as <value>, or return the value of the currently defined alias for <command> if <command> has not been assigned a value.

    eg:

    /alias /examplehello /say hello there

    - typing "/examplehello" will now cause your character to say "hello there"

    /alias examplehello

    - prints "/examplehello is aliased to /say hello there"

  • Yeah I would very much like the ability to turn it off in certain channels and leave it on in others. For example, have it turned off in the Blizzard channels (General, trade and the defense channels) and turned on in the player made channels I'm in and guild chat.

I'd also love the ability to turn them off/on as I want, maybe a small GUI to adjust settings..

  • Yes, I believe there's demand for it. Personally, I'd only like to announce my main in alliance channels, not General, Local Defense, or Trade.

I haven't worked on Identity to much because I've wanted to actually play and the mod does seem to do what I wanted it to do. There have been requests for Fubar support, I'd like to do a GUI, and I'd assume titan support would be a good idea as well.

In addition someone on a different forum requested the ability to turn on and off each individual channel. Is there really a demand for this? I myself type /idchan off/on when I want to change the setting. But, if there's a big enough demand I'll sit myself down and make the change...eventually :)

Hey, if u are on Cenarion Circle say, "Hi." It's always nice to meet folks who like the addon.

    Thanks, Nox

  • well now that im getting better at LUA and my scripting knowledge from other languages is falling in line with LUA, I may be able to make a UI for options in Identity. We'll see, working with nox....
