Client says addon doesn't match, but no changes made

Today, after my almost-daily update check, Curse Client is telling me one of my addons "appears to have been modified and no longer matches [the Curse] database."  When I looked at the addon at your website and at the addon's support website, there haven't been changes in the last two and-a-half months.

I've seen this message once before with a different addon, but the addon HAD been changed and I simply found the new version on your site and downloaded it/added to Client, np.

I'm running Windows Vista and haven't made any changes/updates to Windows or made any changes to WoW, Curse Client, or any other addons in the last few days.

That message actually means that your local copy has been changed somehow, and no longer matches the copy on Curse's servers.  I've edited a couple of addons manually on my machine, and that's what comes up now.  If you simply reinstall the addon, it -should- take that message away.

I have not done anything different in the last week, and hadn't actually played much in the last couple days.  I decided to try reinstalling as per your advice (even though I couldn't figure out what might have changed it).  When I started Curse Client this time (for the quick link to the website) it no longer said anything was different and reports everything up-to-date.  It didn't update anything, either--just ran it's usual opening scan of addons!  (The addon it said before that had changed is still the 'old' version of 2.5 months ago.)

So whatever it was resolved itself.  Lol!

Bethus,

Pleae try a manual Refresh under the Find an Addons panel

I have this habit of clicking Curse Client before I start WoW...

Once again, this morning, Client is saying the same addon doesn't match.  (The info at the bottom even says the addon is the same 'curent' version.)    O.o

So I went into the Find an Addon tab and clicked Refresh.  It processed that and set up a 'new' list, np.  I went back to the Your Addons tab and clicked Refresh there.  It still says that addon doesn't match.  (I even closed it and reopened Client.)  So I figured I'd go back to the Find an Addon tab and look at the addon there to maybe do a reinstall as suggested above--but my addon isn't listed in that tab.    o.O

I'm wondering if there's some kind of issue where it's comparing my addons to the list in Client instead of what's on Curse.  Could it be that Client is not able to list ALL of the addons in the WoW world?  Is it that WHEN Client doesn hold that addon in it's list that addon 'matches' ok but when it doesn't show that addon then it doesn't?

Which addon are you speaking of?

And, in the "Your Addons" section, simply click on the addon in question and click on Reinstall (or Update if that's what's presented), and it should take the message away, or truly tell you that the addon is missing from Curse.

The "Find An Addon" section is supposed to list every single addon that Curse has in it's repository.  If it's missing from there, then Curse does not host it.  But if it's showing up in the "Your Addons" section, then it found a match in the Curse repository, whether or not you can find it in the "Find An Addon" section (because if it didn't, it would place it in a third tab:  "Unidentified Addons")

I hope I'm helping. :3

Just checked on the addons page of Curse Website and others are having this same issue.  It's fine if they do a manual reinstall but if they uninstall and try to reinstall through Client they can't.

I have posted there about this thread and what I have done thus far as well.  Will now re-search the forums on the addons website just in case they figured it out on their side of things.  I'm guessing there is no issue with the addon, but that Client is experiencing some kind of hiccup.  I'm thinking of just clicking Ignore for Client on this one.

The addon is Gatherer.  I'm just a little curious at this point and trying to figure it out for the half-dozen others with the same issue that have posted to Gatherer page on Curse.  Reinstall manually seems like a way of 'reminding' things that Gatherer is fine, but this looks to me more like a symptom than the actual problem.

Thanks for your help, guys!

It is entirely possible for an installed addon to not match the curse database. For one, we certainly do not store every wow addon out there. That is partially due to political reasons, and partially to author's themselves.

One case I've seen occur is a user will install a beta/patch-fix of an addon themselves, then try to use the client to update it. The client, not having access to information about non-officially-released addons will often see it as either a development or "dirty" copy.

In other words, it is unable to update the addon because the only addon that matches it is an older one than the user has.

Thanks for the responses!

What bothers me about this is that it's an addon Curse hosts (it has a link/info/page on the Curse site), but there have been no changes to it, either by me or by the author.  It is sometimes not listed in the Find an Addon tab in Curse Client.  It's in the Curse database, but is sometimes dropped from the list that is compared to what is in the Your Addon tab.  (The addon hasn't been moved from that tab, and it is still showing Curse info on it that shows the 'Installed' version and the 'Latest' version--which are identical.)

Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap. The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one o

Above is copied from Curse Client, Your Addons tab.  I agree with Lywellyn--if Curse didn't recognize it, it would be moved to the Unidentified Addons tab, so it must have found a match.

The specific addon is no longer what I am concerned about, but the fact that Client is 'dropping' addons.  This is a symptom of a bigger problem.

Please hit Refresh in your Find an Addons tab. There was a bug last week where the client's addon list was not pulling the entire list. A simple manual refresh will refill the list.

I've had this issue with Gatherer myself, and it's always gone away on its own-- perhaps after automatically searching for updates, which my Curse Client is set to do hourly.

I figured it was some kind of display glitch with Curse, good to know that's all it is. Next time I see this I'll try refreshing and see if that fixes it.
