A good spell rotation for Shadow Priests

Hi Guys

any shadow priest out there can give me some advice on the best spell rotation during guild raids.

I dinged about 3 weeks ago, and have managed to get my dps up to about 2.3k still less than what i expect, yes i need some gear still and working on replacing as i go. I would be grateful of any help yu can offer

Thanks

Splosh

No one really expects anything more than 1.5k from a shadow priest, we're really only there for misery and vampiric touch. I usually max out at 3k on a boss, if I even get that high.

That said, I throw up VT, VE, MB, SWD, MF, THEN SWP. Repeat as needed to keep your DoT's up. Always wait to throw out SWP, or make sure to recast it a few times, as the crit chance goes up according to what debuffs the target has.

try that out and modify to your taste, every one of us has a diff style, and for good reason, we dont all want to be the same thing, cause whats the point in that.

Props for rolling a Spriest.

I start with SWP because if it misses, it is insta-cast. Then VE, DP, VT, MB, MF, MF or SWD, MB. I use EventHorizon, which you can get on WowInterface.com to show you when the optimal cast times for spells are. You should never need to recast SWP unless you get benefit from debuffs or buffs from other raid members. There is a talent you should have that refreshes SWP by casting MF.

Get ShadowGreenLight, and pay attention to it.

A really good website that is all about Shadow Priests is.... shadowpriest.com I also suggest be.imba.hu to check out what enchants, gems, and other things you may be missing.

I don't have any tier 8.x gear, but I do have some Ulduar gear, and push 4K DPS. There is another Shadow Priest in my guild that is over 5K.

1. SPriests dont really have a "rotation". It's just a priority thing.

2. Don't cast SW:P till you have 5 stacks of Shadow Weaving (Unless you feel like wasting a GCD to refresh it)

3. If you cast SW:P, MF wont refresh the higher ones, it only refreshs the one you currently have on the target. Meaning...if you put up SW:P with 1 stack of SW, MF will keep refreshing the one with 1 stack, it wont upgrade it for you. This is why you should wait. Its been this way forever and it doesnt look like blizz will fix it.

4. Find an opener that gives you 5 stacks of SW. I personally use VT(1 stack), MB(1 stack), MF(3 stacks)...then SW:P and DP. Some put DP in the begining, and clip MF at 2 ticks.

5. your priority is VT > MB > DP > MF. Meaing refresh dots when needed, VT is the most important. MB when its off CD. Only MF when theres nothing else todo.

6. Never use SW:D, unless its a fight where you are moving alot, like Hodir.

7. Try to cast VT when theres around 1.1 seconds left on the one thats already up. Dont cast it too early, you want that last tick. Failing todo this is a big loss in dps.
