Add On Pages crashing both IE 7 and FireFox

IE 7 is reporting a Trojan and FF just plain crashes from numerous add on pages, looks like it's a advert doing it.

A web browser reporting a virus? Highly doubt that... You write numerous addons, perhaps a list of a few of them? I went to a few pages and use FF and have no issues..

This happened to me earlier today with Firefox 3.5, I was opening tabs for the addons Decursive, QuestHelper, GroupCalender & DeadlyBossMods. Firefox would crash and ask me to send a report to Mozilla and my antivirus (BitDefender 2009) reported a virus in the cache called "b.exe" I've been trying all day to find the file with no luck, I don't know if my antivirus removed it or not :-(

Its crashing IE 8 also not reporting virus just shuts down and tries to reload the page 3 times than goes to blank page

No problems here on any of those addons that rkaycom listed. While it still may be possible that it is an ad in the rotation and I was not exposed to the ad in question. My suggestion is to try updating your OS and your broswer to start.

See my "Thread to end all threads thread" for the answer to your question!

My browser isn't reporting a Virus, my scanner is.  The browsers are just crashing.  Decursive seems to be doing it each time so far.

My browsers are updated, and as you can see, it's not just me.

If this helps...

Scan type:  Auto-Protect Scan
Event:  Threat Found!
Threat: Trojan.Malscript!html

That is from Decursive's page

Seems to be other posts in the Curse General chat regarding the same issue.

Could be a advert, or even someone's avatar.

No I'm sorry Vladimier, its clearly only you have the issue jk :-P

I like the advise to "update your OS"

This directly states that IE7 (Internet Explorer version 7 - a web browser).. Nonetheless, I, like Teek, have not had any issues accessing the addons that have been listed here so it is entirely possible there may be an ad that is attempting things. Unfortunately, this is something that Curse.com themselves would have to look into.

Well why aren't they? Don't they moderate theses forums?

This isn't just Vladimier i have pages which randomly close at times while browsing curse, never happened with my email sites or anything else i browse on a daily basis. I've only ever ONCE gotten a virus pop up from mcafee while browsing curse something saved in my cache and mcafee blocked it.

I've noticed it crashes or simply closes with IE8 when i have multiple tabs open and some of those tabs are the image gallery tabs.

We are investing this. Because of the flash exploits that only got patched last week, chinese hackers have been attacking communities sites none stop for 2 weeks.

We have most of our staff working on this as i speak. Meanwhile, please make sure to patch your flash here http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa09-03.html and download AVG here http://free.avg.com/

Does AVG pick it up?

I had the same issue - both IE and Firefox crashed whatever addon pages I tried to load.  No virus warnings, just crashes.

I have since run full scans with both AVG and Ad-Aware.  Neither picked up anything.

Does this mean my system is clean?  Or is there something that wasn't picked up?

(I've also updated Flash now - thanks for the tip.)

Thanks for the update, at least we know you know about it :)

Your browser crashing was a GOOD THING.  This was DEP (Data Execution Prevention, a feature of most modern computers) closing the browser when it noticed trying to do something it shouldn't have.  There is a Flash vulerability that was allowing attackers to install malicious code on the victim's computer.  If your browser crashed when you visisted pages chances are you were prevented from downloading the malicious code.

However, you should make sure you have updated your flash player by reading this post and if you have an anti-virus run a quick scan just to make sure you didn't get any malware.

Well I keep doing and no signs so far. Done like 2 deep scans with Bitdefender 2009 and a couple more scans with some other programs nothing was found. Still worried though :-P
