Disgusting ad

Today I open Curse to update some of my addons, and this is what I see:

cursed ad

These are the kind of ads that infect the PC of unknowing users who visit the website it points to, or scam them into something else.

With a little research, you can see here that this website will let you win a phone with a 2 year paid subscription contract. I am astounished that you, Curse, will actually let these kind of ads infect your software for the money you get for it.

I am disgusted. And I'm not even mentioning the fact that users of your website have been infected with password stealing software before, and that the part in your software where the ad is, is in fact an Internet Explorer window. Others can test this by making a shortcut to a website, then dragging the shortcut on to the ad area. This is a clear security issue. I'm fine with slower downloads, and the fact that I can't download them simultaneously. But i will not jeopardize the integrity of my pc over some updating software and rather choose to abandon it.

Curse, I await your response and it better be good. If this isn't solved within reasonable time, I'll advice anyone I meet to not use Curse ever again. Maybe you don't care, but I do care for my mates and I don't want to see them hacked or scammed when using your software.

No regards, disgusted user

As you are able to do research, you will know that they do not control what ads show up specifically, and have to have ads pointed out to them which are objectionable.  All sites have this issue, a day or so ago there was an add for private wow servers on WoWWiki for example.

Now this ad is not from Curse at all, it's from their ad suppliers.  It's implying that you have won something if you click the link (the something is a tv)... nothing to do with a 2 year subscription from Curse. :P

Anyways the point of your post was that this is a "bad" ad, and I'll bring it up to the dev people.

Hi guys,

It was an error in the adserver when august has ended. It is now fixed and should not happen again. We are not allowing any kind of adnetworks in the client. Just the advertising se sell directly and can control.

Thanks for the report !
