Power Levelling in Aion (and other MMOs)

I found an article, I won't link it since it actually advertises the service I'm not supporting. But it got me asking some questions I thought I'd see what everyone else thought.

Do you agree with Power Levelling services for MMO's or not? Are they a good or bad thing, do they ruin the game for legitmate subscribers?

This early in a game it is bad. But for an older game such as wow i don't care. 1-80 has been done to many times for it to matter the content has been downgraded so a person who has no idea of the class can do it.

I'm waiting for these MMO companies to get the idea that THEY could be charging for this service.  I know it will happen, I just do not know when.

After all, why should any MMO developer not have a tap coming from the multi-billion $ business of gold, item and power leveling service industry.

Really, if Blizzard did decide to offer level 80 characters for 100$ (or current equivalent off the black market) would you not resist the urge to get a new race/class to 80? (of course it would be 85 come the next expansion, but still.)  or how about blizzard offering 50k gold for 50$ (or current black market equivalent).  Then there would be the epic items, non-combat pets, mounts, etc.

Mark my words - US MMO companies will start doing this, and i will say within 5 years (barring the economy).

That is a scary thought, a very scary thought indeed.

This is actual issue with game design.

If it demand you to level your character to certain point before you can participate in game content, it is a bad game design
(which in turn creating a hole for subjected services).

Yes, I assume you would enjoy power levelling considering your signature ;)

edit: thanks mods for sorting out the gold seller.

I don`t think Powerlevel is "Evil" especial in a Game like Aion it`s a long term play to get lvl 50 many ppl. simple do not have the same time as others in their guild.

Simple Compare: Guy A is unemployed or still at college, he spent 5h+ online in the game daily. Guy B works fulltime and have barley time to spent daily 2h+ in the game at all but he earns good money for an hour of his work. So why he shouldn`t compensate by paying somebody else - who actuialy have the time to play - to level his char ?

In our guild we have some unemployed players and it isno shame to give them the account and let them play. As a refund we pay him his Internet Bill or give some bucks. Hey this also help`s him.

But what I`m totaly agains is botting. There are many players / services trying to use bot scripts to level. This destroys a game, not the levling done by humans.

just my thoughts ;)

instead of the whole powerleveling thing with a bogus company i think Blizzard should at least do something for players with 2 or more lvl80's. What i mean by this is that if you have 2 or more lvl80's then when you go to create a new char you have the option (or not) to start your char at lvl80 with good enough armour to at least get you in Naxx10.

This would stop alot of these "powerleveling" companies in their tracks

Bearing in mind most people are focusing on WoW here i'll start there:

Look at the death knight gear after he finishes his starting area, he's lvl 58 in efectivly lvl 60 blues so if blizz let you buy an 80 all you really need is gear equivelent to the pvp blue crafted set then they could pug Totc 5 and Voa to be all epic inside 10 hours of game play (in fact ony 10 and 25 are puggable with shockingly bad gear) so i guess it wouldnt destroy the game any more than blizz has already.

As to Aion you really need to level a char from start to finish to fully understand that class (even wow used to be like that) so paying someone to do it for you so you can just suck in your role @ 50 is short sighted. In an instance you'll be kicked from most groups for noobness and in the Abyss the pvpers that earnt there level will own you so hard you'll not know what to do.

So in a hard game its a real nono but in a game thats been fixed for under 12's like wow is now its not such a crime any more.

One point that hasnt been adressed is are Blizz/Ncsoft ect offering this service covertly (under a diferent company name) same with gold selling.

How hard is it for a gm to roll a 80, gear him up and give him gold? a lot easyer than any real company offering the same service and considering 1kg is more than 1 month subscription fee they would be nuts not to.

just my thoughts (watch my account get banned from both games now lol)

This, this is so true. You won't have a clue what any of your skills/powers do, or how to best approach your character class in terms of tactics. Well said.
