Annoying problem with multiple Windows accounts

Hi

I have a problem that starts to be really anoying. I have two accounts on my Vista 64-bit OS. One for my son and one for me. We both use Curse to manage our WoW addons. We both have separate accounts on Curse to.

The problem is that Curse do not seem to be capable to handle this. The scenario looks like this:

- I log into my account and runs Curse to update my addons. Everythings is ok. I play and is happy.
- My son logs in and when he tries to run WoW no addons is installed. He starts Curse and has to reinstall every single one of our addons. Then he can play.
- My son logs in another day and runs Wow. Everything works
- I log in and same thing again. I have to reinstall every single addon

And so it goes, as soon as the other has played (updated the addons) the other one of has to redo it all. It never ends... Is Curse able to handle this and if so, how?
Is there any way to set this up that works, I happy for any idea that can solve this.

It's not an option for us to use the same account since I have to limit the time my son plays and I do it by a parental control program bound to the login account.

Please advice

Sincerely

/Thomas

I think if you install wow to a non-standard directory (something like C:\WOW or the like), you will be fine.  I think the curse client is getting confused by the multiple directories (which will happen if you put wow on a vista pc and don't change the installation directory).  If you change where it's installed, wow will use only one addon folder instead of one addon folder per windows user.

I have tried to look at the installation but I can't see that WoW has or uses any other AddOn catalog than the one found in the installation directory. It seems to be the same for all users. It looks to me that it is Curse that gets confused about multiple users but I can't find any Curse related data among the user files either...

I might be totally wrong here so please explain the issue in more detail if you think so. Greatful for all help...

Some more information.

When I look closer at the ownership of the files inside the AddOn folder I see the following.

- All folders has the ownership of the last player, eg if I played and thus reinstalled the addons the folders for the addons I did touch has me as owner.
- Files/folders with an other ownership than my user has to be reinstalled for me to use them
- If I change the ownership to administrators (we both are administrators) it still works for me.
- If I log out and in again on my sons account, everything with ownership adminstrators works but the addons still under my ownership doesn't
- The ownership changes to the current user as soon as I reinstall an addon. I have not been able to do an update since all my addons are up to date :-)

Every data so far suggest that it is the Curse client that gets confused when files are owned by another account. One solution would be to give the users some way to control the ownership of the files installed or updated.

If you have multiple WoW accounts on the same computer, and want seperate addons for each account, you need multiple installs of the game. On Vista and Win7, in your case, I suggest

c:\Thomas\WoW

c:\Son\WoW

If you tell the client to point to each directory, you will be fine. The good news is that you don't need to reinstall the game, go through all the patches, etc. Just copy the World of Warcraft folder to the new location and paste.

Or, you could do it in game. Keep one install for the game, then when you switch, click the addons folder on character select, Load out of date addons, and select which addons to use for each character. You will need to do this for each account, but after that, you are good to go.

The problem boils down to that we have multiple WoW accounts and multiple windows account. The problem is multiple windows account. Different wishes of addons per character/user is solved. Multiple WoW installations, one per windows user might solve the issue with differing windows account. Will try but I don't like it since I have to manage 2 installations every time a patch is released...
